If they really can, which I have my doubts about, does it really matter to them? Do they get scared and not bite because of the line?

Honest questions here because I use Braid all day everyday and haven't noticed. I also don't fish with any floro or mono either so I guess I wouldn't know right?

I've thrown stuff at Alan Henry, a very clear water lake, with braid and couldn't get bit. I'd throw the same thing on my fluorocarbon, and I'd start catching fish. It just becomes suspicious to them. They definitely can see it, I throw Braid in darker water conditions, and fluoro in everything else.

They do. But I also think it depends on the lake. Every lake fishes differently. I have been told by a guide at Amistad that since there are so many small sticks in the water the fish are used to thin sticks/fishing line. Therefore it won't matter. (Either way you can get bit on a bare hook at Amistad, lol) I do believe it matters but it depends on the lake more so than the fish.

They become lure wise. That is why they will jump all over the lure in a pond that has no pressure.

They can definitely see the line and depending on water clarity it could affect your number of bites. Besides throwing mono for a topwater I use fluoro for everything just to be safe and consistent.

I've always wondered about this as well. I hear professionals talk about when in clear water lakes. For those that have never fished any where else then Texas lakes then you may not know what clear really is however I see it mentioned on some TX lakes. I've never once seen a clear lake in Texas. The lakes in Montana are clear as it gets. Some of them you can see 20 feet to the bottom.

I think you could fish any line in these TX lakes and get away with it

If you were sitting in a crowded area and some one ate a chicken mcnugget with a string hanging out of it and got yanked up to some alien ship only to be measured, photographed and thrown back to earth would you eat the next mcnugget you saw with a string on it?

Don't think bass have the memory that we do, not even close.

+1 or the capacity to reason or learn from the examples of other fish. I think they can see the line, and sometimes it may spook them off a bite. Other times, I'm not sure it makes a difference at all if they are feeding aggressively. Just in case, I typically use flouro leaders on my braid.

Not meaning to be a schmarty pants, but can you see the line?

If you can so can they. The easier it is for you to see, the easier it is for them to see.

Ill second RaderDale on this. My best example is from a few years ago when I was fishing with a friend on Lake Gilmer. I was throwing braid, and he was throwing Seaguar Carbon Pro. I could not buy a bite, and he was catching bass regularly. We were both throwing the same worm Texas-Rigged with the same weights, and hooks. I did not start catching fish till I switched reels, and started throwing Trilene Sensation, a clear copolymer. After that I caught fish with regularity including the big fish of the day.

Sometimes the bass dont care what line youre throwing, and other times theyre down right persnickety about it.

Well what about the days yall throw the same exact setup and
He whoops your a$$ 7:1?

Maybe while at breakfast
you had a potatoe taquito and he had bacon on his.

On the ride home yall concluded
They were on a low carb diet and prefered the angler with
Bacon hands.

I throw only 30-65 lb braid on all water. I still catch as many fish as I did with fluro or mono. I dont do much deep structure fishing so I can't tell you much about that but I do a lot of shallow fishing and it doesn't make a difference. If the water is clear I still see the fish observe the bait like normal and it will always strike it like it did other line. And if you get hung up with 65 lb braid you can pull trees out of the water lol =).
