I was at Port A from Thursday to Saturday. It was very windy and choppy everyday. Thurday i didn't get to fish that much. I stayed at the Bay Tree so i just fished off their pier which was pretty good for sand trout and specs. Friday was the first day of serious fishing. I first went to mud island and found a slick and started catching a few undersized trout. I then went around the back to get out of the wind and reds were everywhere which I caught them on mullet and fish bites. I set out a rod with cut ladyfish and hooked into a 4.5ft bull shark. Now that is a nice fight. I also tried the jetties but it was way too rough. Saturday the wind was still howling but the birds were diving on the edges of the channel around the lighthouse. I quickly caught my limit on specs up to 22" on a top pup orange/black/gold. They then started hitting live shrimp under a popping cork. They seemed to all be in the grass. Did anyone else fish this past weekend?

Fisherkid, hey your names not Keith by any chance is it? I'm from Austin too, and I'm headed down there this weekend. Were you in a boat or kayak or what? We're going to fish the jetty and probably the surf while we drink some brewskis. Let me know if your going to be down there.

Thanks for the offer but im 17 years old. My name isn't keith, its nathan. I was fishing out of my new procraft 200 combo which i love. That boat does awesome in fresh or saltwater. I wanted to fish the jetties but there were swells up to 6ft. I did try the surf from shore but it was rough and crowded with kids. Hopefully it has calmed down by now. Good Luck

Your 17 and you got your own boat? Dang spoiled. Just kidding. Well if you don't want to drink some beer then atleast you can tell where the fish are biting.

Hey tyler ill be calling you pretty soon. Surf fishing dude, if i was older i would be down there this weekend with you because i ALREADY need a break from school. Just look for the birds and you will find the fish. I didnt see one fish break the surface but the birds were diving so i threw a topwater and killed them. Even around noon when the sun went behind a cloud, the topwater bite would come back. I tried DOAs and caught a few but they really wanted live shrimp. I would try mud island or traylor island or anywhere with grass. If you want mullet, they were schooling in the hundreds in the flats around mud island. And just to clear up the misunderstanding, its actually my dads boat and i was there with him. I wish it was my boat.Maybe in a few years. Anyways, good luck fishing and be sure to report.

Skeeter, we're headed down on Sat. night or early early early Sunday morning from San Antonio. Where are ya going to be fishing at? I'm sure we'll fish the jetties and the surf. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to come out fishing in the bay. She's worried about that bacteria stuff. I'm sure she'll end up wanting to fish but we'll see.

The only topwater i used was the top pup in black/orange/gold(halloween colored). I tried a silver mullet colored one but nothing hit it. I wanted to try spoons since i have never caught a spec or red on a spoon, but i was so into topwater i forgot. Bone colored also work out there but i lost it to a big jack that spooled me.
