My buddy and I are going to be in South Padre the last weekend of the month to do some fishing. We got a guide last time and although we caught some fish, we decided we didnt want to spend the money this time around. Anyway, I was wondering if some of yall who are from the area and knowledgeable would be willing to fish with us. We will buy all the bait, beer, snacks and gas for the boat or 4x4 if you prefer fishing the surf. We are both working, family guys that like beer and fishing...just dont know the SPI area. Also, if taking a stranger fishing doesnt sound appealing can you guys offer some advice on the best spots we can wade fish in the area? Whats the best bait this time of year? etc.

Dad and I fished off jetty a couple of weeks ago and it was alright alot of grass but a constant bite nothing special caught.Someone told us about the jetty at Port Mansfield and that was off the chain. Good thing we found it the last part of our trip or my dad would be getting a divorce today LOL. 27 miles down the beach right next to the water was a treck but well worth it the big Dodge had no problem. We used live shrimp and cut baitfish we caught with a little hook right next to the rocks.

I haven't wade fished off the bank in some time, but the good word is always by the bridge on the outgoing side. I have drifted along the bring and have brought in quite a few bull reds and some keeper size trout. You can't go wrong with a popping cork with live bait. It is probably not worth the wade if the Tide is completely out. It would be too shallow. There are some bay access points north on the island that I have never fished. The beach access point that are also north of the island(access points 4 and 5) are pretty accessible to 2wd vehicles and you might have some luck there if the surf is calm. This part of the summer it should be calming down. Live shrimp, dead shrimp, finger mullet, top waters are usually choice amongst my fishing buddies when hitting the surf. Good luck!
