What are you using and what general area are you fishing? Live bait or plastics? I was thinking of going out there this weekend with my girlfriend and would definately like results like yours. Tell me what you know. Thanks.

hey man im using live croaker and live shrimp... hook the croaker onto like 3/0 or 4/0 hooks just on there tail to give them a injured look also you can hook then through the lip. the shrimp im not using a bobber or wieght just a leader and im letting them settle to the bottem and then cranking slowly in... im gunna be down there this saturday. o yea the best place i have gone is go in the second public beach entrance, u can use first if u like driving the beach. drive down until you go past a big beach hose thing thats actually a picnic area its dark brown and has a huge porch all the way around it and its real big. then drive down until ou reach a stretch of beach with no houses for quite a ways and the posted signs say dune side parking only. i park on the surfside and havent had a problem. but ill be down there around 5:50 or 6:00. i have a sand f250 4x4 with lights on the front.. rod holders on the grill gaurd black fender flares, cb antenas, and a tool box.. its hard to miss. the fishin should be good if it stays pretty flat. also you can go down around the last pier... thats pretty good too

QuackHead,
I'll be there perhaps we will see each other. I drive a big blue 4x4 4 door Dodge. I plan to spend the night on the beach. Bringing my 9x11 Pop Up Sun Shelter and my hammock and lots of OFF Repelent! Also the grill.
Buddy from the Army (we served back in the early 90s) was supposed to come but he is closing on a house, got a new girl etc. so he chapped out. I am going anyway and don't mind being alone but don't mind some company either, specially just to trade a few fish stories and may be kill a beer.
Couple questions,
One, where you getting the crokers, cast net or are you just using light tackel and shrimp and catching them or buying em?
Two, when you say the second public beach entrance do you mean comming from the Galveston/Pass side or from the Freeport side?
If you like ping me by email and we can trade cell phone numbers, tried to round up some locals from DFW for the trip but they are all busy, wife won't let em or hitting the lakes and not up for over nighting it.
So let's see I'll be at the beach with light winds, high of 88 degrees and miles of open beach and fishing surf for anything from whiting to sharks. They will be in the middle of a lake, fighting off jetskiers and catching 1-2 lb white bass. Oh yea and it will be 102 degrees up here which should put a boat deck in the middle of the lake at about 115!
Hope to see ya there,

Hey, I was wondering if you are fishing straight of the beach or in the 2nd or 3rd cut. I'm headed to port A and conditions should be similar.

I emailed ya back my cell number and sure shark sounds fine to me. I am picking up a good surf rod tonight (decent anyway) I usually just use my med action fresh water stuff for playing with sand trout, whiting and specs but figured on an over night put on a big bait with a wire leader and see what bites.
I'll have the grill all fired up, lots of food and beer and it should be a ton of fun.

Not the best choice in leaders up in DFW. I picked up some 45lb leaders in 2 and 3 foot lengths. They are ok but not what I would have preferred for sharks. Most blacktips are not that big though problem is when the leader is too short and the pigs swallow the whole leader.
See ya this weekend. What is the biggest blacktip you have caught down there?

I didnt get to make it down there this weekend. I was headed there Sat. and it started pouring rain. I called Saltgrass Bait and Tackle and they said it was about to storm over there as well. How did you guys do? Did ya get rained out too or did you get to do some fishing? How big of a surf rod do you use out there? I only have a 9'. Is that big enough?

we were out there all day not a bit of rain all sun... the water was very very clear... you could see your feet in almost chest deep water. you could see each sand bar. fishin wasnt great even though it was flat out there in the morning. lots of whiting, a couple of trout. and something was running the mullet like crazy but we couldnt hook up with any of them

It was great! I came home with 32 nice whiting for frying up. No specs, no sand trout but heck a day of catching whiting on the beach is much better then sweating in the middle of a lake at 109 degrees.
I had a blast Grant you and your friends are a bunch of great guys. My buddy Brad and I plan to fish either Bryan Beach or Quintana on August 12th. If yall want to join us you are more then welcome to.
I am even considering going down to Matagorda after the post I just read about the Sand and Spec Trout,
