I got there Saturday afternoon and started fishing right away. There were boats everywhere because there was a tournament going on. Fished around Saluria Bayou next to a drop off. All fish were right on the edge of the flats holding in the 3ft range. No keepers were caught but caught tons of specs and reds just under the slot limit. All were caught on shrimp under a popping cork. Also tried the wells with no luck.
Sunday, I started off with topwater. Had a few swirls on it but no takers. Fished the dropoffs again, the same as Saturday, but still no keepers. I then made a run to the jetties and the bite was on. Next to the jetties, there were nice sized sheepshead and even pompano. Out deeper, the sharks were everywhere. Caught sharks ranging from 10 inches up to 5 feet long, all caught on mullet. My last stop was the surf. I anchored at the 2nd sandbar and fished the first and third guts. The trout were in there thick, easily catching my limit.I didn't have time to fish the pass but I will try it next time.

To tell the truth, that was the first time I have ever fished the surf. I just decided to try it and it payed off. I was only about 50 yards from the jetties, but there were fish swirling and birds diving all around me.

In the surf, all I used was live shrimp under a popping cork. Even the sharks were caught with shrimp, which I thought was weird. The surf was completely smooth. The only issue was the heat. Be sure to take plenty of water with you.

Sorry I haven't replied. I was on vacation at the Grand Canyon for two weeks. I have never fished the little jetties. If it is calm enough, I always will fish the big jetties. I have heard mixed things about the little jetties, but all good reports from the big ones.

Any new reports from this area? I'm going tomorrow morning. I hope to fish the jettis if its not too rough. The wind has died down some here so I hope it has there too.

Fishing is always good, its the catching that varies.
