Alligators were illegally killed, and the culprits were caught and charged.

What's not being told? The land owner doesn't own the water. I think every one is jumping to conclusions here because TPWD is involved. Just because they are investigating it doesn't mean the guides and lawyers broke the law. Maybe the land owner is a prick and just looking for a buck to pay some bills? You never know.

Hello guys.(i missed you donny!) I havent been on here in quite a while. Been pretty busy. I guess you could say, "I have been up to my butt in alligators".LOL
On a serious note tho, I understand how legitimate outdoorsmen get all riled up when a news release like this come out from "authorities" That is what it was designed to do! Ever wonder why TPWD would give a state wide news release on a misdemeanor? I can tell you why... to rally the possee to hang em high!
Now that said, we were falsely accused once before. Charged when a client took the number 6 alligator in the World but after MONTHS we had not been accused of one single thing! When our lawyers pressed for the discovery, TPWD dropped all charges against us. We filed open records request to find out why we were accused and our names dragged through the mud. TPWD refused to comply with that legal request. Now here we go again. A client killed a monster alligator. they keep changing the size. Guess they measured the pictures. It will eventually rank as the number two or three alligator in the World by SCI. I guess someone doesnt like that because we did NOTHING wrong! maybe there is still a little burn from how ignorant a few folks looked last time so they would like to take another swing, or maybe they just wanted this gator to be illegitemate so bad they were willing to believe a lier without checking his story. Im not sure since we have not yet been told what it is we are accused of doing wrong other than the simple charge on the warrant. I will say there are some great folks in TPWD. Someone did the right thing last time so maybe they will get out their case files and do it again before some rogue makes a serious mess worse.
Once again, thanks to the few who realize you shouldnt be hung untill proven guilty. There are tons of news stories out there where reporters smelled a rat on these charges. I guess those might not ever end up on here. Negative is more fun...Right?
I will try to get over here more often. Please follow along as my name is cleared. Thank you, Steve Barclay GarGuys Guide Service

GarGuy, I'm just curious as to why You might think that this particular Landowner would make these charges toward You? Is He the same Guy that made the charges the first time? I realize that there are 2 sides to every story and as a fellow Outdoorsman I hope that You have not done what You are being accused of. Do You think this Guy is out for You or what? I really do hope that is the case and that He is just an overzelous (green) homeowner because if not, I hope You and Your Partners and the Customer get everything coming to Them. If not, At least You got a Lawyer on Your side.

Everyone innocent until proven guilty. My first thought when I heard this was the landowner changed his mind once he found out just how big the gator was. I'll wait until everything is settled before passing judgement.

Why kill such an animal? Lord knows how many years it took to get that big. If you're worried about it hurting people catch it and relocate it. Don't shoot the thing! Hope you have good lawyers.

Why kill something that big is asked way too often. From a hunter it would be utterly ridiculous. From a fisherman it usually is explained as the concern for the genes of such a large creature, that if it dies, all those genetics are lost. Now that is really ridiculous. How many times ya think that bass you're holdin there has passed those genes along already? If he goes in the frying pan, does that mean all his descendants swimmin around instantly die too? Hunters with guns and arrows don't practice shoot and release. A gator that big has had ample time to pass his genes so don't worry bout it. A hunter feels bad if he wounds and caint finish off the animal.

I will try to get over here more often. Please follow along as my name is cleared. Thank you, Steve Barclay GarGuys Guide Service Innocent until proven guilty, but let's not over do it with the "TPWD is out to get me" theory. It was the landowner who called TPWD and not the other way round; why would he do that? It was TPWD's job to investigate. Have your day in court and prove the landowner is lying - no problem. (In the future you may consider it good business practice to get written permission to hunt off private land and avoid all this drama.) When the gator was killed it got a lot of publicity because it's an iconic species and this one was big - you said it might rank as number two or three in the world. If it was killed illegally, that makes it newsworthy regardless of the level of the alleged crime. Publicity works both ways. Let's hope justice will prevail.

If you keep killing the biggest of the species eventually there will be evidence of a change in that specie's average size. You proved you can think, just think it thru again.
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Man you guys are tough! There's lots of reasons hunters shoot big game and fisherman keep big fish. It's not my business to judge any of them but there is a time to stand up and do what's right. In this case I don't have an opinion but would love to hear what happens with this in the future. Hopefully the guides and hunter did nothing wrong but you never know.

I'm dumb and confused - what a combination!
Was the gator killed in the river or on the land? Is there a season for gator hunting? What laws were broken?
I remember the hunter stating in a story that he had to make a perfect shot when the gator surfaced and his small head was showing (I know that coulda been a mis-quote). Then I remember another quote from some one else saying the gator fell in the water after it was shot from a river bank.
I'm certainly not trying to stir the pot, I'm just curious what the laws are and how the gator was killed?
Very interesting, to say the least.
