I could layout a circluar path around the lakes in this area. It would be a fun trip!

I'm sorry to inform you of this but East Texas is now full. You'll have to move somewhere else.

Moved from Dallas seven years ago, and the only way I would leave is in a box. Fishing, Camping and neighbors are great.

I live North of Longview, Hallsville ISD. Seems people out here like the schools. Good for resale.

Friends at Good Shepard, like working there. I am in Oilfield Equipment. Good workload right now. I go to the "Pines" almost every Sat morning. 15 minutes away.

You will love it!

I would second TFP's recommendation of a place between Longview and Tyler. Tyler is so popular with retirees because of all the medical facilities here and your wife should find employment in Tyler no problem...I don't know anyone in the medical field who job hunts for long. There are some nice areas between Tyler and Longview...we've sold acreage and homes around Arp south of I-20 and Winona, Friendship and Midway north of it. Not many subdivisions in those areas, but if you like country living you'll be fine. I just showed a Satterwhite log home on acreage off of FM 1252 near Liberty City...it looked tight and had a great spot to throw up a dam for a 3-5 acre lake. If that kind of thing floats your boat you can sure find it in the area.

If you ever get bored around here, Take a ride to Kilgore, and check out the east Texas oilfield museum.

Or to New London to see the New London School Disaster Museum chronicling the gas explosion that killed 305 people, including many school kids, in 1937, http://www.hilliard.ws/nlmuseum.htm. My Mom's family were volunteers in the clean-up...sad story for many families.

Both my Parents remembered the New London Explosion. Dad had just turned 18, and Mom was just five days shy of turning 18. Mother Francis Hospital was scheduled to open on the next day, but because of the disaster it opened a day early. Both my Grandmothers would get emotional about it. It had a profound impact on folks in East Texas for at least a couple of decades afterward.
