Well fellow fishermen........what a blast at the Pass this past weekend. The specks are definitly biting. My wife and I arrived late Thursday evening and set up our fishing gear for the night fishing. There were others there as well with their 1000 watt lamps and generators waiting for the night to fall upon. As soon as the lights turned on, Fish On. The were hitting real good with live shrimp on the popping corks. As for me, I used my new and handy "Rockport Rattlers" with some white minnow plastics. I got my share of specks and sand trout. We were fishing on the gulf side off the wall on the outgoing tide. Then when the tide started turning it slowed down and and stopped. The next day, Friday, The waders were hitting those specs, sand trout and some flounder on the bay side of the pass. They were using plastics, not sure what kind though but they were very successfull about 2:30 pm that afternoon on the outgoing tide as well. Night time came again and were getting ready for the night action mode. I went to go get my live shrimp but I forgot that these bait and tackle store close at 7pm; therefore, I went on using my lures that night. Now, before I go any further, let me warn you that if you are wanting any live shrimp or mud minnows, try to get them before you get to the Pass. The North End Bait and Tackle are still under construction on building up their tanks and things are still a little slow for their live bait there. Stingaree's is well supplied with live bait so you might stop by ther for your live bait. By the way...North end bait and tackle have great hamburgers for the hungry fisherman and very clean restrooms too!!! Anyways, night fishing starts and man-o-man, the folks to my left were "Hammeren" them specks with live shrimp. And I do mean very nice 17 inchers and above. I tried my lures but to no avail, those specs wanted fresh meat.......live shrimp. But hey I enjoyed watching everyone else catching them. Then I had this lady to my right who started using live shrimp and guess what, booyah, as soon as she casted her pooping cork and liver shrimp, fish on. She too was into the action too LOL. This old lady was having a blast, enjoyed watching her catching them too. Next day Saturday, I caught a 30" black drum but let it go those make more babies. There were some sheep head being caught on the gulf side of the wall along with some whiting and some flounder. That day there was seaweed in the water and very windy. Waters were dirty and not very good conditions for fishing. But all that will eventually start clearing up soon. Oh and as for the litter there, major improvent . Still took my rake and trash can liners to do my part in cleaning up. My wife and I enjoyed our clean area and our fishing trip. Well.......there ya go folks, hope this little bit of info will entice your curiosity and the pass. Fishing is good there and getting better. Good fishing and be safe !!!

What size and type hook do you use when fishing live shrimp. Also, what type of lure were you using.

Hey Reggie, isn't that what its all about salt water fishing, having a great time and relaxing by the ocean. There are great and awesome days that I have gotton my share of fish and some days that were sour. Seeing others getting their share gives me a good insight that the fishing is good. Hardheader, the technique is pretty simple, some stores already have the popping cork rig already made for you to use, all that you really have to add to it is the treble hook with the 6 or 8n size. Others like me make their own rig by buying the popping cork seperatly then attaching a leader about 3 foot in length and at the end of the leader use a treble hook. One foot from the treble hook we add some weight to hold the line down but not too much to sink the cork down. I will try to make some pictures on this site to show you what they look like. 2112, most definitly worth telling everyone the news.

Glad I caught this post. Great report!
Unfortunately I don't have generators or big lights. Will one of those 1 million candlepower flashlight/lanterns pointed at the water work?

Sorry Sherwood, flashlight don't really have that much kind of pull lol, but if you would like some info on how to acquire that certain kind of lighting and generator info, I would be more than glad on passing it along to you as well. This night fishing sport is quite awesome and you will most definitly get your share of specs. Its fun to do and full of action .

Sherwood, you can get an underwater fluorescent light at Academy that runs off of your boat battery, works well. Use the smallest treble hook you can find. Put one barb through the shrimps horn in front of the black spot in their head. Academy also sells a "shrimp hook" in an orange package that works well and keeps the shrimp alive indeffinitely (about 2 bucks each) If you get into the sand trout, you'll know because they bite off the tails of your shrimp, put one barb in the tail horn instead of the head.
Go get 'em

Really sounds good. I think Charlotte and I will try to slip down a couple of days next week or so. (And we were inpressed with the cleaning that the folks over at Hazels RV park had taken on.)I've got the cabin at northend reserved for a week or so in July, But I wished it was next week.

I know the feeling the feeling Larry. My wife and I tried to get reservations around that area but all were taken. We might be heading out there again next weekend. I KNOW that the fishing is getting really good there at the Pass. And yes the folks at Hazels Rv Park have done very well with the clean up. Makes a huge difference when you are fishing there. Hey good luck Larry and i hope you have a blast at the Pass.

Hey Trey, thank you for the report, that seaweed really messes things up when you're fishing. Hopefully things will clean up very soon. I plan on going out there next weekend. I will keep you posted. How did the wet wading go? Did they do any good there in the flats on the bay side?
