I don't waste my time trying to make something taste good that doesn't to start with. We used to eat the bass we caught as kids, but my mom couldn't make us eat them after while, they just tasted too 'musty' (Meaning, like the bottom of the lake), unlike ocean fish, or trout or salmon, those taste great too.
Probably if you smoke alot you won't know how bad they taste, then go ahead (one friend does and he says he likes bass).
Even it they tasted good, I enjoy catching them too much to ruin the fishery by taking them home, at least the ones four or larger that is. I've caught too many that I'd released the next week, having as much fun the second time as the first.

Fish populations are no different from deer, and we all know deer herds have to be thinned out to help their growth and overall health. We've gotta get off this mentality that the bass is a holy creature that can't be eaten... It's a fish folks.

You got to look at the time it takes for a bass to get really large compared to a deer.

Since it's a fish, cook it like you cook fish. How do you rig a rattlesnake?

Paper sack with some cornmeal and tony chacheres (sp) mixed in it. Chunk in the grease and eat.

You know its been so long since I've eaten a largemouth I can't even remember what it taste like. I enjoy crappie and I never did eat catfish til I moved to texas, always thought of em as a bottom feeding garbage fish until I ate at this place in Arlington called catfish sam's or something like that. I don't like trout or salmon or most pink fish, they always taste fishy to me.....

throw them back or you won't have any bigger then 5lbs ever to clean. might as well eat a tennis shoe. cook the small ones if any. That's one of the more uninformed statements I have heard regarding fisheries managemet. What do you think the purpose of a "slot limit" on a lake is? It is to encourage the harvest of fish under that slot and permit the angler to keep one trophy or "over" if they so chose. The fish in the slot are protected because they are the best brood fish (breeders). The fish under the slot need to be removed constantly to keep the fishery healthy and producing a high percentage of bigger fish. Lakes without the slot have daily and possession limits set to encourage the normal harvest of fish needed to keep a fishery healthy. I do not eat bass over 3 pounds and I think they taste great! I just wish we as fishermen would ALL educate ourselves about basic fisheries management. Further, you will NEVER hear me berate someone who has a fishing license and keeps their legal limit of ANY specie of fish. People who do otherwise must have a Godlier than thou personality disorder or something.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

You got to look at the time it takes for a bass to get really large compared to a deer. Good point, it takes 5-10ish years depending on the lake to grow a really memorable bass as opposed to 3-6?? years for a trophy class deer (I'm not a deer biologist). But, there are a whole lot more fish/acre than there are deer and growth can often be density dependent. If there are too many fish in an area, they will never reach memorable size. At any rate, every lake is different and we could debate this all day. But, out of respect for the original topic of this thread, I'll leave it at that. You can have the final word, Tricky.
