I grew up in Longview, I'd personally stay north of Hwy 80 to avoid crime and idiocy. LOTS of nice places to live just north of Loop 281 in the Spring Hill area.

Kilgore has some bad places but not near as many as Longview and it also has some really nice areas. If I had the option, I'd look for something in the Tyler area for both a better city and the nicer hospitals for your wife. I've been in Tyler since I moved back to Tx and love it here. You couldn't pay me to go back to Longview anymore.

you will have to be very patient with people when you get ther until you get ajusted to the east texas way of life. the pace of things is much slower and alot more relaxed. this is not a bad thing at all, everything will get done eventually and get done right. but it wont be at the pace you are used to.

My guess is that Cicso, TX isn't a very fast paced way of life either!

I live in Tyler and work in Longview. There are a few nice places in Longview, but there are quite a few BAD parts too. If you must live in Longview, find Birdsong St. on a map and move as far away as possible. That seems to be where it all goes down!

Ya'll act like Longview is bad?

Tyler has a lot more crime activity compared to Longview...watch KLTV news.....people getting stabbed, shot, robbed all in Tyler...daily. If you don't believe me just look....

Our Police Beats(stories) in Longview News Journal have been very tame in the last year or so....the LEO's have done a great job! IMO!

In 1988 Longview High school wasn't too bad. Nowadays, who knows?

As far as crime goes Tyler is a lot worse than Longview and the traffic sucks for a city of that size. Each city you live in is going to have the good parts of town and the bad. Learn where they are and avoid them. Here's 2 sites for local news if you want to start checking on it.

White Oak is a nice small town and once you fish Pines you won't want to live more than thirty minutes from there.

You can be on Fork in about an hour or Bob Sandlin in 45 min. and Rayburn and TBend are around 90 miles away.

Kilgore oil field central is about 10 min drive and Carthage about 40 min.

The Red River and Bass Pro Shop are one hour away and they have the gambling boats if you like that sort of entertainment.

I used to work in Tyler and my wife worked in Longview. We lived out of Winona pretty close to where Interstate 20 and highway 271 intersect. It was about a 12 minute drive into Tyler and a 25 minute drive into Longview. There is a gated private lake just to the southeast of the intersection that you can catch a lot of good fish in if you can get a lot/house there.

I don't really have a lot of input, just an outsider moving to Sam Rayburn lake. I went to Longview a few times to look at Satterwhite log homes, stayed at Tyler, passed thru Kilgore. I think Longview is beautiful and the people were very nice. Tyler was a little more difficult, we stayed there for something, Azela trail? My wife was blown away by the stores and shopping, so I could care less about that. Depends on what you like. I think Lufkin is nice too. Anyways, the East Texas way, being slower and such. All I can say is YES IT IS. That is OK. Nacogdoches ... nice too.

Thanks everybody for the info , and Yes, if things move any slower there than they do in Cisco, you'll have to chalk there tires to see if they moved, but that's the way I like it. may'be coming over that way next weekend to check things out
