Got on the water at 645 this morning. Surf forecast was wrong again (imagine that!!) Water was rough and very chocolate milk looking. Thursday when I was there you could see your feet in chest deep water, but not today. Stopped at Denver's Bait for some live shrimp and even though it was only a pint in a five gallon bucket with an aerator running about half of them were dead when I made it to the water less than 5 minutes later. Fair amount of weed, but not terrible. Caught about 15 decent whiting, two keeper drum and one dink spec. Headed home about 11am to hand out with the family.

I was down there myself @ Access 4. Wind SW 10-15 mph w/ 2-4 footers. 2 of us caught about 35 nice keeper whiting on dead and live shrimp on the bottom, 1 keeper drum, and about 9 dink specks on live shrimp and also caught 1 on a chartreuse plastic. Very few hardheads thank goodness. It was just a little too rough for the trout in the surf. They were there, but it was tough wave hoppin to try and get em. I'm hopin to hit it again in the next couple of weeks.
Wonder if the Jetty was producing? We thought about hitting it, but stuck it out on the beach.

Almost went to SLP, but my stepson wanted to swim and I don't risk him in those currents at the pass. If it would have been me by myself I would have waded Christmas Bay, but it wasn't in the cards this time. Swellinfo.com was calling for ankle high or less surf, but they sure missed that.

I'm headed down to Surfside tomorrow for the day. First time to fish this beach. Normally we fish mustang island, but this is a good 1.5 hours closer to College Station, so hopefully day trips will be more accessible.
Hoping the weed has slacked off, it was horrible in May. As I'm not used to this beach, how are the access roads marked? Do they actually say Beach Access Rd. 1, 2, 3, etc similar to mustang island?

They're clearly marked with blue signs. Personally I like going to the beach access roads past where the houses are. Makes for less people. And I'll be there tomorrow too.

We were there on Saturday, and as stated, it looked like chocolate milk out past the bars. We hit the beach by 7:30 at access rd. 4 and went down a little ways to find a spot. We started out catching whiting and hardheads pretty steadily on shrimp fishbites. tried to cast net for some bait several times during the day but only came up with some horse mullet. I was hoping for some finger mullet. We tried cut whiting, mullet and hardhead and never got a single nibble save for the crabs. Ended up catching a couple of undersized black drum, and what the best I could tell was a small pompano, everything on fishbites.
Other than that the wind was cooperative, if not a little too slack at the sunnier parts of the day. The light rain in the morning was actually pretty awesome. Now that I know it's only 2:15-2:30 to get there from CS, I hope we'll be taking more day trips when the water looks better.

Fished in the surf near the jetty today. Water had cleared up well since Monday. Trout were there, caught several on lures and live shrimp but small sharks would take the shrimp as soon as it hit the water. Must have caught at least a dozen.

It's difficult to tell by looking at the cameras, but it looks as if it's clearing a little.
