It was a comedy of errors and stepping on toes this afternoon at Joe Pool ladies and gentlemen. Everything was going on uneventfully as we were fishing a point on the west side of the lake, until a bright man and 8 other people in a rental pontoon decided it would be a good idea to run in between us and the bank... right into 2 ft of water (lucky to not be on trim). It put a couple of them off balance and they were most definitely stuck. Everyone piles to the back of the boat where the lower unit is lodged in the dirt and sink it further as the driver throws it in reverse. I could only watch and cringe as the motor flexed the transom under stress. Before these *ahem* inexperienced boaters lost their mercury, we trolled over to assist, after rolling around on the deck of the boat for a minute or two. When we asked him if he tried to raise the trim, the reply of "what do that be" was less than comforting. We told everyone to get to the front of the boat and jump so they could free themselves, which they did, narrowly avoiding punching a hole in our basscat as the pontoon was in gear and ready to rock as soon as they were loose. But the evening's entertainment was not over. We pulled up on a brushpile outside the state park soon after the high centering of the highly intellectual. It was marked on navionics and we got right to it. We noticed a boat in the vicinity obviously looking for the same thing, and we invited them to join us. No sooner than we teamed up, a fine gentleman riding a jetski approached... quickly. Seeing an opportunity to stir the fish up some, he ran between us and our comrades as quickly as he could and cut between us, sparing no more than 5 feet on from each boat, right over the brushpile. What a courageous man to take such a daring risk to wake our fish up a little! I showed my appreciation and let him know he was number one in my book. Little did we know, tuesdays are learn how to back in a trailer night at the ramp, and everyone is invited!!! After what seemed like hours of running up curbs, spinning tires, knifing trailers, and yelling at housewives to "G. D. GO BACK THE F*** SLOWER!, we were able to put our rig on the trailer and drive away. Joe Pool... what a magical place!

I can understand the inexperinced pontooners and the boat ramp learners, but the dude on the jet ski incident is wrong.
Had a teenager do somthing similar to me several years ago on Granbury, except he was doing circles around me. I cranked it up and followed him around the lake for about an hour. He evidently ran out of gas. Should have seen the look of terror on his face when I idled up to him.
Me: "Want me to tow you back?" Him: "Y..y..ye..yes sir."
Never said a word to him about buzzing me. But I would guess he doesn't do it again.

Great write up! Just a typical summer day at Joe Pool, and the number one reason I only fish that lake in the Winter... its to small of a lake for that many city folks!

My daughter and I are sitting in the hospital bored waiting on blood work for surgery and then I read this. Now I'm sure everyone here is wondering what we are laughing at. Great post.

I had a 3/4 oz jig on and im sure I could have pegged him. I don't hold anything against the guy on the pontoon or the guys at the ramp, it was more funny than anything. Jetski dude pissed me off though

When I lived in Cedar Hill I only fished Joe Pool early AM and then got the heck off the lake. For some reason there just seems to be more idiots that go there than any other lake I have fished. Grapevine is about the same size and I have seem some dumbazz stunts there but nothing compares to Joe Pool...

I thought I had seen it all but at PK on the 4th we were coming back to the dock in the no wake zone and here is a guy with a big i/o ski boat idling along with about a 10 or 12 year old kid in the water holding on to the swim deck. Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.

Makes you realize that whatever other anglers do to annoy you is small stuff compared to the rec boaters.

Sometimes you just can't fix stupid. 4th of July I think two or three years ago we were at the family lake house at PK and two guys with $50,000 wake board boats with the throttle pinned crashed in to eachother head on coming around a corner. One heading to Hell's Gate, the other coming back.
