Hello, need some advice here. Headed to Rockport next month for a first time trip. Where would a good place to stay be. Want somewhere FISHERMEN hang out, not TOURIST! Close to water. Places I can wade, or pier fish, and decent eating houses. Thanks for the help.

Hunts Castle...lots of fishermen stay there and they have a pier right across the street from the motel....
Best eating is in Fulton Beach...Charlet Plumers and the Boiling Pot(10 mins down the road from Rockport....)

If it's seafood your after, I would recommend the Crab'N located about half way between Rockport and Aransas Pass at City by the Sea.
One of the best there in my opinion.

Los Comales is good if mexican is your flavor.

Kon Tiki beach hotel Rockport has pier and can drive the boat in to dredged canal behind hotel also has boat ramp. Also the fishing bridge is 5 minutes away. Also can wade fish right to the right of the pier. Have stayed at Hunts Castle not as nice.Try the Big Kahunas in Port A order the ribs also has good seafood or the Crazy Cajun in Port A.

REDFISHON, I had stayed at Kontiki 2 yrs. ago and went out their channel and scratched the boat pretty bad. Have they cleaned it out since then? We are going down and staying there in two weeks and would like to launch there if we can.

Thanks.

Will be staying at Hunts Castle in September. Have stayed at Sandra Bay cottages for years and they are "okay" but my wife wanted to upgrade last year and Hunt's didn't disappoint. I heard fishing on their pier was good but we never tried since we fished mostly in Port A and off shore. For food, the Boiling Pot, Crazy Cajun, and Big Fisherman are my choices..

Polar24 They cleaned the channel this spring while we were staying there. Kontiki is a good place to stay.

Thanks, RMP. We are also heading down tomorrow afternoon, but we are staying at Sportsman's Manor. They have done a complete face lift there. Depending on the weather we are going to head out of the jetties Sat. morning and then come back in and fish the bay.

No problem. I think the closer its getting though we may be fishing the bay. It started out on Sat. & Sun. being 2-3 seas and now its 2-4 on Sat. and 3-5 on Sun, so we'll se what happens by the time we get there.

It never ends. I also run cattle and we haven't had rain since Memorial Day and the storms were building to the southeast and have completely passed us by. I already have a feeling how it will be Sat./Sun., but it will probably beat spraying mesquite.
