My family is planning on a fly fishing trip to the conejos river colorado. The only problem is, I dont know anything about the area or the river. Where is some good cheap lodging thats close to good fishing? What size rod would you recommend? What flies are the most productive? Are there any special regulations that I should know about before I go? What section of the river is best? If I book a guided trip, who should I go with? I know thats alot of questions but I really need some tips. Thanks.

Probably the best place to start is here. These folks will have the full 411 you are looking for.

happy birthday rrhyne and gigem pulverizer
We had a home there for 8 years where 17 crosses the river and have fished quite a bit in the area- my favorite spots are elk and hansen creeks-, fisrt and second meadows of elk creek, the pinnacles; the south fork and the los pinos and I reallly like fishing the big river on the public turnouts from Highway 17- and the fishing is great up and downstream where 17 crosses the bridge
elk hair caddis, stimulators, hoppers are great Good and cheap lodging there will be hard to find- but check out the cabins at mogote, conejos river ranch and the ponderosa campgrounds-

We're headed there on the 26th. We are staying at the Conejos River Anglers cabins and fishing with one of their guides one day. To say I'm excited is an understatement!
kody'spapa,
What weight rod would you recommend for the Conejos? My go to rod is a 3wt, but I'm afrid that may too light for that river.
