I bass fish and crappie fish but the only fish I keep and filet are crappie. For me it takes a really sharp filet knife with a good motor to clean crappie and not lose very much meat.

Recently the electric knife I had burned up and I had to find a replacement. I tried the green/yellow Mr Twister and the Piranna. Also tried a cheap one from Walmart made by Black & Decker. None of them did a very good job and were slow. Blades are a little too thick and the motors were noisy.

Went back to Ebay and bought a couple of the GE Electric Knives, so I'd have one for the future. Seems like someone could buy their patent and start mass producing them again. They were the best electric knife for Crappie I've ever used.

I have used the Black & Decker for years and never had a problem using it.

Piranha blue mr twister is what I consider durable, but since you tried and didn't like it, I don't know what else is better. Assuming the GE one is good to ya, unfortunately, I've never use it. I never luck with any GE products so I don't touch that brand on anything...

Finny Tribe carries the American Angler. Best one I've used; haven't tried the B&D.

I got an American Angler and like it but I noticed Academy doesn't carry them anymore.

You're right, they don't. And when they did, you could usually get them for under $20. Soon after the Tyler Academy opened, my dad found them on sale there for $9.99 and bought four of them and gave one to me. Wish he would have bought twenty of them. The only place I have seen them now is on various websites and not a one of them is under $30. Then you have to add shipping.

I like just a plain old fillet knife no noise and darn near just as fast.

Finnytribe sells them. Hopefully they will carry replacement blades as well. Hard to find the AA's anymore. Sure hate to switch to something new.

Keep on fishing.

The yellow American Angler Ultra's were freaking awesome. Got over 2000 fish out of my last one. The new grey model that I got this year is not nearly as good as the blade release is in a crappy spot and the blades keep falling out now.

the rapala blades at academy work fine in the blue american angler, just replaced mine. one thing to be careful abt the american angler, the cord isnt very tough, and will break near where it enters the knife, it will lose power because some of the copper strands are broken inside the black insulation, easy fix though, open the knife in half., ( 2 screws), and cut bad wire out and reconnect.. then its good for another 1000 fish.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I've tried a lot of different knives. Never had the yellow American Angler or Rapala. I tried the gray American Angler and hated it. The Mr Twister Green and yellow is okay for a few fish. The Blue and white Saltwater did not last a year. I went back to the Black and Decker from Walmart. You can still get them online from WalMart for $27 for 2 of them with shipping and tax. They cut as good if not better than anything I have had.

200 fish ain't much.

I bet I've filet better than a 1000 with no end in sight. I did look at the American Angler website and noticed they are selling the lowest model with one blade for $45 and the all metal geared model MT3 for $96. Kinda steep IMO but who knows someone will buy them or they will show up at Big Lots or somewhere.
