Hello all, I'm new here so I hope I'm doing this right. I love to fish, I'm just not very good at it and don't know much about it. I get to the lake about sun up and I can see the fish jumping but I can't get them to bite, any ideas? If it matters i'm from the panhandle. I have plastics but don't know how to use them much. mostly use worms, minnows, corn, ect. any help would be appreciated, thanks

welcome to the forum relbac, not trying to be sarcastic but that is why it is called fishing and not catching!

Where in the panhandle?

I'm from Canyon/Amarillo.

I fish most of the lakes around these parts. Send me a PM and we'll go from there.

Right now the lake is sitting at about 45ft. It's really bad if you used to go back when it was 140ft. they closed the marina this summer and are tearing it apart right now. along with the enclosed dock.

Welcome to the hobby.

First, you need to find a lake. According to the TPWD web page McClellan has no large fish. It went dry and all the fish died. It has been restocked, but it needs a few years. If you see fish jumpimg they are probably carp or other trash fish which came in from the creek, and are difficult to make bite. Meredith is still classed as good so you might want to try it.

Second, you have to decide what species of fish you want to catch. When you say "anything that bites" you will usually catch nothing, since every species requires different tactics, tackle, and bait.

For a beginner at this time of year catfish are a good choice. Sunfish are small but fun.

I am going to send you a personal message. If you look at the top of the forum page you will see "My Stuff" with a black arrow, which will flash red when you have a message. Click on "My Stuff" then "Messages" to read it and answer.
