Went to a soldier fishing event this weekend. Took a soldier Robert Griffin and his ten year old son Josh drifting Friday night for catfish. Drifted a 4 ft flat with shrimp and the youngun hung a 9.06# largemouth bass. 25 inches long with a girth of 19 inches which makes it the new catch and release record!

Maybe this is a stupid question, but what is the distinction of a catch and release record? Who knows about whether or not all the current lake records were released or not? Speaking of that, I caught a 9.8 on ray bob when I was 14, which was 12 years ago. Had no idea at the time that there were separate junior records. But that would be the current junior record, assuming our scale was right

The catch and release records are usually a way to get our youth interested in the sport and to teach conservation. I guess I could have taught him how to clean and cook it instead of teaching him that releasing it is good for the fishery. It so happens on a side note that two years ago at one of these events he caught the lake grapevine youth bluecat record and catch and release record for that lake of 30# which my son incidentally broke nearly exactly a year later with a 33# bluecat. I only posted this because I figured you bass guys would get a kick out of a ten year old catching a nice fish such as this on shrimp of all things. I guess I was wrong!!!

That is a nice fish. Good job putting another angler on a pb and a record. All the big large mouth I have ever caught have been on accident...usualy under a school of Sandies. They way the catfishing has been going here lately I might have to start bass fishing.
