Bought a 03 Nitro 882 and it has surge brakes. I drive an 02 Ford F150, and when I got home I couldn't back it up my drive way, which in on an incline. My truck is outfitted for the round 7-pin connector, and the flat 4-pin connector. The boat is a flat 5-pin, but I have the adapter that goes from the round 7-pin (truck) to the flat 5-pin on the boat.

What is the problem? Am I going to have to change out my truck's flat 4 to a flat 5?

Any help would be appreciated so that I can use my boat.

BTW, this is my first boat with surge brakes and might be the last.

I had the same thing with my nitro. On my trailer I have to pull a pin out right behind the ball on the tounge and move and insert it in a hole about a foot behind the ball. This allowed me to go up the driveway without the brakes locking in.

It is in the dead center of the side.

In case you still need help. Check your fuse box to make sure the backup light fuse is still good or even better yet use a test light on your 7 round to make sure you are getting power on the backup circuit! If you are getting power through the backup wire then most likely the problem is a broken wire on your boat side. There is an acuator that disengages when it receives power through the backup wire. (Not all boats have this type of system but if your boat has a 5 flat then it has it).My boat has that problem because of the way they wrapped the wire in a big coil, so every now and then I have to wiggle the wire to make it contact again. Using the pin in the tongue method is more of an emergency thing, which is what you had of course; but take the time to fix it properly so it won't be a pain in the rear every time you have to back up.

Thanks for all of the help fellas! My truck didn't come equipped with a the trailer reverse relay. So it was an easy $12 fix...after a ton of trouble shooting that is.
