Guys, I'm just getting into this saltwater wade fishing thing and was wondering your take on ray guards. I will mostly be fishing the Rockport/Aransas area with a few trips to the Galveston area. I have used waders and boots for fresh water but not much there I'm concerned about. I am going wade fishing for a week in early October so have some time to make a decision on ray boots or not.

Hey Hotrods, go back sixty days to the post dated 6/16 regarding wading and you'll see some good info. Good luck.
Through Him,I am content in all things, good or bad.

Just my .02
I have been wade fishing in the bay area around Rockport and Port Aransas about 16 times this year. So far I have seen 6 stingrays total on 2 of the 16 times fishing. Shuffel you feet on the ground to avoid stepping on one and you should be good to go. Some good wade boots are good no matter what but the ray gaurds (IMHO) are overkill.

thanks for the reality check. Which boots are recommended? I've been looking at the Chota Flats and the Hodgman boots. I don't mind spending $100.00 if they last, provide protection and are comfortable.

I personally wear a old pair of Hi-Tops. I have been trying to find a wade boot I would like but there are not a lot of options for a size 16 foot.

Thats what I have been wearing, but thought I would step up for my saltwater gear. Luckily I only wear a 10 1/2. Thanks for the info...

i wade copano area and just for ease of mind i use the ray guards, my sister uses stingaree II only because she usually uses real bait instead of artificials, and many of her catches are good sized sting rays, and humble skates. also if your in copano watch out for the reef areas, they cut neoprene like no ones biz... my poor hodgman creek boots... RIP! LOL!
