Use can use table salt from walmart just make sure it does NOT have the iodine in it. I go to sams and get the 25lb bag it works great and is cheap.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

I second the stock salt works great and lasts a while carry it in the boat in 20 oz plastic water bottles. Use one bottle per 30 gal tank.

Salt is good for shad but be aware that it will kill any type of sunfish/bream.

I use natural sea salt. You can buy it at wal-mart. Stay away from water softening salt!!!!!!!!!! It has tons of extra chemicals in it.
it's the crapy days that make the good days that much better!!!

I also use Foam Off when I use salt, works good. Salt water will foam pretty good sometimes.

I use about 3 cups of stock salt and 1/2 cup shad keeper in my 30 gal tank. I keep foam off in my boat but have only used 1 time. Most of the time I do not need it but I do not crowd my tank.
