I use my electronics equal parts of keeping me safe (knowing where to run, how deep it is etc.) and finding fish. Sounds fun but I think it would be unsafe.

I think it's a cool idea. But you'd have to ban all cell phones and gps at the same time. Unsafe? Surely people navigated unknown water before sonar or gps, probably not at 70mph, but I bet they got it done

I doubt anyone under 40 would know how to fish or even find their way home without a boat full of electronics.
People rely on them now, I know a guy that sat on a brand new boat and never even got it wet for 3 months while he waited on saving up enough money to put in his fish finder, gps, and new trolling motor.
The trolling motor I get, it's a pretty important part of navigating for me especially but he didn't even 'try' to fish without his fish finder.
When I'm on the coast I don't really look at the depth finder except on occaision to see the actual depth. When I was younger we had a knot rope on the boat cause my dad's depth finder would go out randomly so we'd just chuck the rope every now and then to get the depth lol.
I'd totally do a no electronics tourny. I have a feeling you'll only get people who already know the lake it's on though. It'd be an awesome TV show idea though... call em sushi tournaments cause you're fishin raw. They take 10 pros to a random lake they've never fished and give em a john boat with a small motor and a trolling motor, a cooler and only the tackle they can carry to the boat easily.
2011 Fish Eagle Mountain Lake: Sandbass x33; PB 1.0lb 13inch. LMB x3; dinks. Benbrook Lake: Hybrid Bass x2; 5.05lb,2.5lb. Sandbass x3; small. Lake Tahoe: Mackinaw Trout x3; 6lb, 4lb, 3lb. Truckee River: Rainbow Trout x1; too small to weigh. San Francisco Bay: Leopard Shark x3; 15lb, 8lb, 7lb.

Not saying there not helpful, but I've fished with many who have about 10k worth of the greatest and latest graphs/gps's, and we still fish all the visible structure.

I just started trying to go out more while the hybrids and sandies are stacking up to learn more and get comfortable with my graphs in deeper water. Its a valuable tool when you learn to trust what you see. But I think it would be fun to try a tourney w/o any, tho GPS is more valuable as a saftey tool..

All we had were flasher back in the day. Some of the "rich" guy's had paper graphs. Funny looking back now!

I am apart of the new generation but don't have the money for the electronics. I want them because know that they will make me a better fishermen but I have done without them for a long time.

If you do this, let them have only a Flasher ( the old Box type ) as this is what most had ont their boats at the start of Tournament Fishing. This would help with running water not known by the anglers.

Nope, you go necked; not even a rain suit. If it starts to rain take your clothes off and put them in a dry box. When it stops raining; dry off with a towl and put them back on. No depth finders either.

I also still have one i can rig up on the bow too, i'm set. The paper graph went when my dad sold his venture in the early 80's though. A flasher can tell you A LOT if you know how to read it. some people still have a flasher on their boat if jigging deep structure vertically, you can see the jig on the flasher and get it to the right depth!!

Was BSing with a buddy of mine last night,, he said they should have a no electronics event or series.
Kind of intersting. For a 1 time event. I read that Paul Elias, who won the Elete tournament at Falcon a couple of years ago, said all you have to do is look at the map, and when the blue changes color, fish there, it was that simple. (Of course it depends if the map's water level is actual.)
