My grandson and I had the opportunity to fish with http://www.johnmccalmont.com/
John McCalmont this past Tuesday (12th). On Hubbard by 6:00 am caught huge school of sand bass feeding - no birds. We stayed on top of them for an hour, one time my grandson Jake had three fish on one line at once. Went south hooked upon 4 very nice hybrids, at red barn and then yacht club area. John was absolutely an Incredible, kind, gracious guide. He took time with my grandson to show him a few things about fishing and me as well. Great boat, great guide and the fishing was very good. Especially considering the incredible heat we are having. We topped the day off with an extremely fast boat ride up north into the river to cool off.

Thanks John

I did not know John was a guide or that he even fished Hubbard. Very nice. thumb

I am assuming he was in a Skeeter.

I don't think he is a full time guide, I got to fish with him on Lake Fork once and it was a trip my wife bought for me at a charity function at my church a few years ago, back then he said that he donates a few trips a year to give back when he can.

Gotta ditto that Tuna, I caught my biggest bass ever on that trip to fork, he was first class all the way, really took the time to show me and my dad some new stuff! Is he guiding regularly now? Or was this a trip you got at a charity event?

I may be new at this but I'm Learning!

This was a charity event. I don't know his availability as a guide. I do know he is a busy man, but he really took the time with us. I included his website link in my first post so others could check it out. Here it is again, http://www.johnmccalmont.com/

John donated this trip to charity, he does not guide, these are charity events only. Great trip!

Very cool post Terry! John is quite a character! Does he clean/slice fish at the end of your trip with a chain saw?? LOL!

Hey Terry one of your neighbors told me a bit about you and sounded like you're a modern renaissance man as well. Good stuff!! cheers

I would have liked to have seen John whip out the saw, only one problem we didn't keep any fish. I am trying to teach my grandson (Jake the Snake) the only time to keep a fish is when releasing them does more harm than good. (that's just my preference) Thanks for the compliment. Here is a picture of Jake the Snake with a hybrid from our last trip Saturday about 2 pm, just the two of us.
