Am hoping to go to Port A in October and might prefer to wade instead of take my boat. Can anyone recommend a few of the better wading areas? Thanks in advance ------------------ Ed Utley

Ther have been several post on Open Saltwater Discussion about fishing Port Aransas over the last month or two. Check them out, it might help you. Short list, fish pass at CC bay, CC Ship Channel along the park left of the ferry, surf all the way to PINS, all good for reds. Trout; outside sandbar of fish pass CC side, Maybe fish pass jetties in surf, base of South jetty, and surf as a possibility. Flounder; along the edge of CC ship channel, Aransas shrimp channel. Hope this helps

Fisherman Ed, If you are going to Port A try Wilson's Cut or the Bay around the state park. If the tide is high on the bay there are some great grass beds and oyster reef around the cut that goes through the state park.

BasserB, where is Wilson's Cut and which state park are you referring to. I dont know the area well but on the net I find Mustang Island S.P. and Goose Island S.P. Planning on going to Port A in mid July and Im trying to gather a list of places to fish on foot.

GW, hope BB doesn't mind. Wilson's cut is about half way from Port Aransas to Padre Island. It's directly across from Sandpiper Condos. W-cut runs next to Shamrock Flats/Cove,which is to the right. Got grass flats to the left of W-cut also. Got some good red and seasonally good trout fishing there, high tides flood the grass, good for reds then.............I'm betting the cut at the State park he's talking about is Fish Pass at Mustang Island S. P., could be wrong. Folks from the TFF here(scottie) have caught good trout and some reds in the early spring. The pass opens up to C.C. Bay, in the past has been good to great for trout spring/early summer. Mornings traditionally have been best. Fished it three times this year, not done very good. Don't know why......Fall fish the edge of the grass flats on the right as you get to the opening, should be some reds hanging there on there migration out. Starts mid-September and runs 'til late November most years.......for July, might try F.P. EARLY and then late 7:30 pm 'til dark.......otherwise see if the surf is calm fish there at sunrise......night fishing the piers will be good, try for week days if can. Free-lining live shrimp off the north or south jetty can be good then also.........try the shrimp channel along the 361 causeway road between P.A. and A.P. work the drop off, can produce fish. Hope this helps.

Pardon my ignorance, but when you talked about Shamrock Cove, you mentioned a W-cut? I don't know what that is. I remember a dozen years ago, I used to park at that blue water tower across from the condos, and walked out to Shamrock and wade fished, caught a ton of reds out there back then, now they put up a fence!
Thanks!
