I had poor luck with it as well. I mainly didn't like the way it stayed on the hook.

during the hot part of the summer when the temps are over 100 degrees for an extended period of time, most all the catfish are going to be near the surface because they won't find any oxygen below the thermocline and the higher up in the water column they are ... the more comforatable they'll be due to the higher oxygen content in the water ... hot water doesn't hold oxygen very well at all and this is an ideal time to find really great fishing spots where water is trickling into an environment from a leaky dam gate and stuff like that ... they'll congregate around things like that. most people's mistake when fishing in the hot part of the summer is that they'll think those catfish will be deep so that they can stay cooler in the deeper water but that's just backerds as it can be... during the summer months I'll normally go to the upper end of the lake or up in the river where there's current ... after mid july here on keystone lake the fish are just getting back to the lake from the spawn and most of them will be in the river holes about now. current means plenty of oxygen throughout the water's depth so the thermocline usually isn't an issue in the rivers unless the water isn't moving. also best to not go out if there's absolutely no wind blowing this time of year too because you'll find the fish very inactive ...even in shallow water such as 1 to 2 feet ... they'll just be sitting there and one of my methods to increase the bite in situations like this is to do a drag n drop when there's no current or wind because the fish usually don't move around too much ... a drag n drop is like throwing out as far as I can on the shallow mud flats and then reeling back in about 10 to 15 yds ... that'll leave a good scent trail in the water and any fish that gets a wiff of that scent trail will track your bait down ... just like an old coonhound tracking a coon to it's tree. I've also found that cut shad isn't all that great this time of year either .. cut shad will cook almost instantly once it's thrown out so I've had better luck on live shad ... this live vs cut thing is a little off topic for this thread but just thought I'd throw that in there. this cooking action won't be an issue with Sudden Impact. hope this helps some

I use both team catfish baits and cj's with decent success from the bank.. it's all about kinda knowing where to fish and what to look for... it takes some practice with the hooking of the fiber bt you get better with practice.
