I was thinking of adding structure scan to my Lowrance HDS 7 and wanted to see if it was worth the $ 599 and... if any of you that have it, actually find it helpful when you are bass fishing.

Cool video....raised some questions

- do I get the same clarity with a thru hull as I do with a transome mount?

- any clues on where the best deal is?

Structure scan is the way to go it does side and down scan I don't think you can mount that transducer inside the hull. I have my transducer mountet on my jackplate havent had a problem with it yet. The structure scan is definately worth the money I have it on both my HDS 7 and 8.

Lss-1 goes outside the transom..If your talking about 2d thru hull transducer vs skimmer transducer.. You can all depends on how you mount the the thru hull.

Structure scan has it's own transducer. ou can mount it anywhere, but usually on the jackplate is best.

Structure scan is awesome. Its a whole different ball game than just running your basic graph. If I could afford it I'd buy it.

My team just purchased HDS 7 with side/down scan and put a HDS 5 on the trolling motor.

It has really brought a whole new level of fishing to us. We are still learning the equipment, but can clearly see it as a very valuable asset to fishing. Cant believe how much technology changes. Great product!

Ranger, to use SI your transducer MUST be outside the boat (on the jackplate or transom). The side shooting beams can not go through the hull.

As far as the benefits of SI (LSS-1). It all depends on how you fish and if your inclined to use it. I know quite a few people that have it and really don't use it. If you do learn it and commit to use it, it's awesome and will improve your fish finding capability.
