My parents are staying somewhere on LBJ this weeekend. Dad wants to know if theres any particular area to head for fishing more so than recreational boating?

There's no area on the lake where you can get away from the recreational boaters if that's what he's after.

There was an LBJ thread not too long ago with some advice on locations for fishing. Deeper water is key right now.

I was out there a couple of weeks ago and the recreational traffic was just too much for my taste. The only place I was able to get away from it was way upriver in the rocks.

Thanks, that was my guess, but wanted to ask to be sure.

If you can work your way thru those rocks its possible to catch fish. cat fish whites and I'v heard some one say they caught big Striper jus below the dam during the summer. We took a 20 ft pontoon up there in Feb and killed the whites. If not after dark fish the dock lights seveal docks have underwater lights. once again the whites should be good.

LBJ has good fish but it's tough. Boat traffic is awful and most of the decent fishing in up the river around docks. This time of year, early morning is your best bet.

Tall Tale,

I've been interested in trying those docks at night. Where should I launch in order to be able to hit a lot of lighted docks without having a long run in the dark?

There used to be a public ramp in Kingsland between the Llano and Colorado arms. I'm assuming it's still there as a public ramp. There's quite a few lighted docks up the Colorado arm. There's also quite a few docks in the Horshoe Bay area with lights. That's the other end of the lake by the dam. There's a ramp near the marina by the dam that makes that area accessible. There's some good fishing this time of year in the general area of that marina if you spend some time with a map and electronics.

The Kingsland ramp is still there. Some of the better docks IMO are over in the Sunrise beach area. Seems more fisherman live around there.
