Here's the story. New guy goes to Ray Bob with his first used boat, new depthfinder and used trolling motor. He's a master of none.It was a real comedy and I'm worn out. Launches at Pecan ramp in the heat of the day and heads north to all the 20 foot plus depths and every tree looks great to me.I know you've all been there. Where in the world do I begin? Had only one fish on the entire afternoon that hit a crappie thunder and he exited the jig near the surface. Really enjoyed seeing all those little gold fish symbols at different depths on the Humminbird though.

One, turn the fish symbols off. Learn to read the arches. Two, fish high precentage spots, brushpiles near creek chanels, trees near the creek chanel, deepest piles in the hottest part of the day, and the shady side of all piles, trees, or whatever else you are fishing.

You are in the right area... look at a lake map of roberts and you will see two creek channels that run through there. I always did really good there in the first few trees that you come to. Used to kill them there years ago on ceartain trees! Just trial and error.

Hey..I think you did one hell of a job catching a fish on your first outing and especially fishing timber and 10x that on Roberts. There's a ton of timber out there. You done good. Don't cut yourself short clap

Thats exactly how I started a few years ago. Bought a used boat and trolling motor on Craigslist, added a fish finder, and started fishing Ray Roberts and Grapevine.

I'm still a pretty crappy crappie fisherman but Ray Roberts has a lot of places to find 'em. My advice is far from expert but... from Pecan Creek ramp on RR, fish the timber just north of the bridge and the bridge columns. Also, there are some tires strung together for breakwater in front of the RR Marina that usually hold fish. Troll back and forth along the tires dropping a minnow or jig between tires at different depths until you start getting hit.
