Ill be at the red river army depot for training for 5 weeks starting monday and will have the weekends off before i head back overseas working as a contractor again and would like to get some fishing in before i leave again. Any places close that are good. Of course be bank fishing. Either lakes or rivers are fine. I fish pretty much for everything that swims in freshwater so all comments are welcome. Have a friend i met that will be going thru training there with me thats loves to fish as well. Thankyou in advance Mark

Try the Lake Wright Patman spillway. If they are releasing water, you can pretty much catch all species of fish. If not, try the rocks on the back side of the dam and you will catch all the catfish you want. If you have access to boat, you can do a lot better because your luck this time of year bank fishing will be limited. Good luck.

Well tried the spillway mid week and was catching catfish cast after cast but they were all small. A ton of gar in there right now and talked to a few locals and say they buffalo fishing is pretty good down there if you can get past the catfish. Saw some fishing in the water coming out of the chute there attacking the shad but couldnt see what it was chasing them. Also some guys using a jig/bobber there in the current but didnt get to talk to them what they were after. Look to be a curly tail grub so thinking after crappie or sandies.

Yea I'm not surprised with your luck at the spillway. With this heat and the gates being off, your chances of catching anything good wasn't very good. Probably catfish attacking the shad up where what little water is coming out of the gate. Crappie are caught there, but usually when the water is a little bit higher and it's not so hot. Good luck!
