Went fly fishing on Sunday morning with Bryan at Lake Lavon, looking for largemouth, white bass or whatever wants to hit our fly. The morning was really slow for me, I was getting skunked. It was a bit better for Bryan, as he caught 2 small bass, 2 white bass, and a couple of bluegill. It was around 9:00AM and not a lot going on, as we could not find the schools of white bass, so I decided to make one last attempt by the dam. I was fishing my 1wt fly along the rocks, using a very small grey/white clouser fly (like a real small jig) , when I felt a big fish on. I saw the fish and first thought it was a big catfish, but then shortly afterward saw it was a smallmouth buffalo. The fight was on

The crazy thing is that we didn't have a net. Finally the fish was tired, and I got him close to the boat. Thanks to Bryan and his exceptional fish handling skills he was able to put his hand under the fish's belly and pick him up out of the water. Also fortunately, he was legally hooked in the mouth, not foul hooked as is often the case for me when I have caught buffs on the fly.

I put the fish in the livewell, which it barely fit into. Since there are no buffalo fly records for Lavon, I decided to go for the lake record. We drove to Bass Pro Shops and had the fish weighed there. I was hoping they would want to put him into the fish tank there but they said they didn't want any more buffalo. Then the fish was weighed at measured (10.56lbs) , I released him right there at the lake in Bass Pro in Garland. He swam away in pretty good condition.

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.
