Saturday, 12/10, I fished the channel from about 2 p.m. till dark and only caught one keeper and one @13" on rod n' reel. As dark fell, I put my waders on and grabbed my gig and light and giged 8 within a 40 yard radius of my boat in less than an hour. I miscounted and thought I had my limit but, errored on the right side of the law. They were all stuffed full of mullet which I didn't have. I used shrimp, mudfish and stawberry/white DOA Shad during the day; they obviously did want those.

This is pic of a 24"(gig) fish next to a 16"(rod n' reel) fish.

Man, I'd sure like to have a few of those puppies for use on my barbecue pit. The season ran late this year, but it's still going strong, even though the run traditionally tapers off by the first week of December.

Check out Vince Stiglich's "Reel Report" in the Galveston Daily News (available online, just Google "Galveston County Daily News" and sign up online at no cost). There have been several reports of fishermen taking some very nice flounder from the traditional venues at Seawolf Park and the boilers near the Ferry Landing at Bolivar. A good many of said anglers are using inshore-size Black Salty baitfish and doing very well; I wish you had had some to try on your recent trip.

An inside tip: No one is talking about it much, but I have it from solid sources that the waters directly beneath the Galveston Causeway are coughing up some mature and solid flatfish when the tide is moving.

Good fishing ...

Boz

Hmm, haven't decided if I want to fish for flounder near the Galveston Channel or go after some trout somewhere else.

I was at the pass yesterday, it was crystal.

Its amazing how just a few inches exponetientaly
increases the mass of the flounder.

The biggest I gigged this year was 22"
so congrats on the brute

Man, we always a day late and dollar short. We went there on Sunday and fish all day only caught one. We were wading in the ship channel near Seawolf Park. I guest flat fish really come out at night and hitting gig. Sweet, thanks for the info Boz.

Heading back there this weekend and this time going on Friday night and will fish all day and night on Saturady and see the result of this.

Keep SAFE and stay HEALTHY
