Decided to venture out to Fork on Wednesday and Thursday without a guide - the bite was on.
6.4 was the biggest one and we were happy with that. Lots of fish in the 3-5 lb range.
Good advice on this forum and fairly simple. Get a big spoon, find a main body point wih some fish on the graph, and start ripping. It seemed like the harder we ripped the more they would bite as the spoon fluttered doown. Most were in 25 ft of water and and our fastest action was mid afternoon.
The sandies were a bit of a nuisance. Guess they would be a dream for someone that wants to put meat on the table.

The first 100 sandies were fun. Then they started interceping our topwater bite.
Crazy.

Tajit,
Glad you got to get back out there and have some fun! Spoon fishing is awesome when you get on 'em!
Congrats on the fun day!

Went back to Fork again yesterday - guess I'm becoming a regular there.
Lot's of big fish (big for me) again. Pushed my personal best up to 6.8 lbs.
This seams crazy simple once you learn the HDS-5. Boats all over over our honeyholes but most seemed to be casting crankbaits.
Guys watching us with binoulars - its simple, spoons, spoons, spoons.
Tried a DD22 for about hour and got one small bass and some good sun.

DUDE...We caught a lot of fish on DD22s this weekend, but I threw a spoon on main lake points until my arm fell off and I can't get a nibble on the thing! I let it sink all the way to the bottom, give it a couple rips and let it fall. Repeat all that way to the boat...What am I doing wrong?

Here is the thread that changed it all for me.
Texas Fishing Forum Forums FRESHWATER FISHING Bass Fishing How do you know what to throw!!!
Ronnie's chart photo's are excellent and his recent fishing report helped also. Tom Reddington has a very good article on his website on how to fish the spoon that I follow to the tee.
Another guide recently told me that the biggest problem most fishermen have with a spoon is quitting to quickly.
One spot I have had good luck recently is under the 515 bridge in front of Minnow Bucket. Just follow the channel using your Lowrance as it passes under the bridge. Watch the chart carefully and look for the blotches of baitfish. I stick within two bays of the channel and look for the heaviest concentration. The hotter and sunnier the better. Generally my boat position is on the north side casting back under the brige and sometime parallel to the bridge. You will not slaughter them but I have caught at least one nice fish 5+ lbs each time I have given it a chance.
Also keep a crankbait or topwater handy because the bass chase baitfish in this area and sooner or later you will get a cluster of boils that will provide a 12" to 15" bass on nearly every cast.
I have seen guides running up and down the bridge chasing the boils with clients lately. Sometimes there seems to be larger fish under the smaller bass that are boiling.
Hope this helps.
