Try mud minnows or a combination of a mud minnow and a soft plastic at the same time.

Well i wouldn't use mud minnows... If you have a cast net go out and catch your own finger mullet. Use finger mullet that you catch cause the ones in the bait shop are usually beat up and will die very fast. If you can't get finger mullet i would go with shrimp... we have done very well with shrimp the past 3 weeks in the gyb area, just drag it along the bottom slowly then when you feel that SINGLE bump let a little line out and give it about 10 seconds then feel for the fish to be on the line and set the HOOK.
The finger mullet will get you bigger flounder and the shrimp will give you decent size but the sand trout here and there.
You can make a double leader with plastic of your choice and fish it the same way if you won't want to use live bait.

i had a question for you guys. how do you hook the mullet. Somebody told me mullet eat their bait head first. so how can you hook a mullet there without killing it?

Mullet are pretty tough when hooked, unlike shad. Hooked either through both lips(bottom to top) or from the back, they'll live for a long time.

I think most use a #6 sized treble. I started using the red VMC flounder hooks last year and did pretty well. Ive also had better success with finger mullet vs the mud minnows when fishing the Sea Wolf area. Just make sure they are actually finger sized (3-4 in). I need to stop being so lazy and go down and get me some flatties.

I use the the #2 (not 2/0) eagle claw circle hook. I have had better success with them than the small treble hooks.

Finger mullet over mud minnows. And with flounder, I would use the Khale or Treble. I am not a fan of treble hooks so I usually just use a Khale. Run the hook through both lips and fling him out carolina style. Sounds like calhoun catches some flounder! I would use the exact same live baits.

#2 VMC cone cut flounder hooks, I use them year round for all species, they always seem to hook'em right in the lip, except for those vicious reds they get'em back in the throat sometimes. Can't stand using those "trouble" hooks they just tear the fish up to bad.
