I just put it together. Results are not to bad. When I get to a area I just lift and lock the outbaord and poll around. The gig is on the end of the push poll. Boat is a Bass Raider 8' with a Johnson 3.5hp Lighting is 220 watts powered by a Single spiral wound Gell Cell that last 5 hours. Pix are from Sun night. Though it looks questionable in the picture the smallest went 14 1/4". PIX FIXED

Is there a minimum size for flounder in Texas? If there is, I guess you have to make sure they're big enough before you gig? How do you tell?

Lights are optronics 55 watt flood lamps from academy. Flounder look smaller than they appear. For years I passed up several @ 14" because I thought they looked to small until while gigging with a friend one night he made a stab that I protested. I thought the fish looked 12" under water but when we measured it was just over 14". It takes expereience to discreminate, something that can only come with time. Like the other poster said. If in doubt, just pass him up. Heck, even play with it. Sometimes you can even stroke a small flounders back a few times before he bolts off in the dark.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by corycooper85: if you can gig flounder can you bowfish them Thats a good question but am not qualified to answer correctly. Flounder are currently not considered game fish and as such can be taken by gig, I can not see why bow and arrow would be different.
