5 hour trips are horrible..only on a rare trip do you do well from what I've seen..especially in the afternoon. We've been on two...2 fish caught each time out of 20-40 angelrs...luckily dad had one of the two each time...lucky son of a gun.

The first time I have ever been offshore was on a 5 hour on Wharf Cat. I needed assistantce to real in my fish becuase of my age, but I caught 2 kingfish and a legal sized snapper at that time. One of the kings got bit in half by something??? But I atleast got to keep half of it.
However, that is extremely lucky and most people should not expect to catch anything.

Sure you see it for weeks but it's that dang stench that last for months! Just gotta get back out there and clean the board with a nice catch!

I went out the packery channel to Hospital Rock on Sunday July 3rd. We trolled for a while at the hospital and got nothing, so we headed back in to the rigs around 27 38.150N 96 33.480.

We limited out on red snapper, and a small tuna. Saw a 6 foot shark.

Sunday morning going out it was 2-4 feet. By 11am it had settled down to 1-2 feet or less. It was calmer 15+ miles out than it was nearer the coast.

The something that took half your fish was probably a Barracuda.
I have fished both the Scatcat and the Wharfcat since i was about 15yrs old that would be 20 plus years. For the price its a great deal. Its fishing you dont always catch something.Last time i went was about two years ago and i caught two reds, wife caught a king with a 23lb Cuda attached.I have caught several 4-5ft sharks over the years.
