Wife and I fished the dike last Saturday.Slow fishing on the channel side so we walked across the road and tried the bayside for a few minutes.Did not realize it until later that night that her purse was missing.A gentleman that lives in T.C. called Sunday morning and said he had found her purse.Wife and I went to his home Sunday and got it back.Someone had taken her cell phone and some cash.We were luicky that they did not get the gas cards and all my wife's medical cards. The gentleman told me that he is retired and fishes the dike everyday and there are some that make a living by driving up and down the dike all day ripping people off.Don't do what I did:leave your truck unlocked and be able to see all of your truck.

The dike absolutly blows. It is dirty and nasty. You can easly spot the riff raff cruising around for easy pickings,,,its so obvious fishing is the last thing on those punks minds,
About 3 years ago they broke into my truck and stole everything including the keys, why they did not take the truck who knows?
I had a hide a key on the frame but it was only for unlocking the door so I HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO FIX THE DOOR HANDLE THEY POPPED.
I will never wade mesquito island again and have heard my story is very common.
WORD TO THE WISE,,,YOU ARE TAKING YOUR CHANCES ON THE DIKE.

I agree about the dike being not as safe as it was years ago.I do not have a boat and my wife[handicaped] loves to fish.I thought the dike would be the place to take her.I may try taking her to Sea Wolf park and try fishing off the bank there, she cannot stand very long on piers.

The dike has never been a safe place to be after dark. When was it safe years ago? I grew up there in the 70/80's and you always heard of people being robbed or some drunk driving off into the drink. I even watched a drunk weave down the dike and off into the bay several years ago on a visit to the folks house. It's to bad that TX city does not fix it up and work to improve fishing around it. They could generate some revenue if it was worth a few bucks to drive out....say 5 bucks to enter the dike to help pay for piers, ramps, fish habitat.....
