I have on of those 12 volt deer feeder batteries I use on my kayak. I have a simple solar charger for it that charges it really slow and I have over 25+ hrs of use on the battery and it went from 12.5 volts to 12.1 volts. The battery is rated at 20 hrs or so of life, but you can get more out of it especially if you have a way to keep a charge on it.

12 volt deer feeder battery. Last for 25-30 trips to the lake for me.

I use an 8 AA battery pack. I can usually get 3-4 trips out of em depending on length of the trips. However if you have a more powerful depth finder a small deed feeder battery or equivalent would be best. I have a low end eagle cuda so it powers mine up just fine.

I use a rechargable drill battery. Never gone dead and has a quick charger I throw it on an hour before I go fishing. I'm currently using a 9.6 Makita battery. Think you can get a drill and charger from Harbor Freight for like 20 bucks.

I got the Humminbird battery from Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Humminbird-7700281-Portable-Gel-Cell-Battery/dp/B000N314J0/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_b

Comes with a charger, and no shipping costs.

This battery is maximum overkill. I have never come close to running this battery down. Last for multiple trips. Most fish finders draw very little.

I use the 6 volt 7 AH battery for the bait tank pump. This lasts 13 hours.

I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

Just be careful and do not do what I did and buy rechargeable batteries. They are .2 volts less than the normal batteries and do not add up to the needed 12 volts to run most fish finders. That was a $20 mistake but at least I got a ton of AA batteries around.

The humminbird battery kit uses a bunch of a or c cells, get the 12 volt 7.5 amp hour batter from academy and be done with it in my opinion.

Edit: I thought you were talking about the portable kit that uses multiple standard batteries they do offer a 12v 7 amp hour with a charger for 40 bucks but I think you can find it cheaper.
