How to install your Side Imaging - Structure Scan - Down Scan - (Imaging transducer installation guide)http://www.sternmate.com/Where.htmlWe prefer accuracy and to simplify the installation of all transducers, including imaging transducers. Suggestions and photos made by others are great, but may not be suitable for you. Imaging is designed for slow speed use. This procedure will eliminate your having to rely on others, who may not be installing correctly, which may not work for you. Raising the motor slightly during use may be necessary.
(1) When installing an imaging transducer on the underside of a "stepped transom" or a jack plate, you're relegated to whatever image it may see. Raising the motor somewhat to avoid lower unit view may become necessary.
(2) When installing your imaging transducer on a transom, install your imaging equipment and the electrical as instructed by the manufacturer leaving your transducer uninstalled (hanging loose).
(3) Place your boat overboard and move it to shallow water. Turn off the motor. Trim motor to running plane trim position.
(a) Standing in the water behind your boat, move the transducer around on the transom watching the monitor for best imaging view. Solicit help if necessary to help monitor the screen.
(b) If using an imaging transducer for speed and imaging, move it around at the running surface for best imaging view.
(c) If you are using the imaging transducer for imaging only, locate it somewhere above your running surface and below your at-rest loaded waterline. This will help protect it. We find no advantage to drag these transducers at speed.
(d) When you have located a potential spot for your transducer and you have been unable to avoid "seeing" the lower unit, raise the motor gradually until the image disappears. This is normal as long as you're still pumping water and have not breached the trim.
(e) Mark your location.
(4) When installing using SternMate equipment, you're welcome to call for assistance.
***Remember...by following the basic transducer mounting "Rules", what may be the perfect spot on your boat, may be completely wrong on someone else's boat, even if electronics and hull model are exactly as yours.
