Charley knows I don't like snakes and when he kills on while we are fishing, he likes to put it on the bow or hold it up by the tail like some kind of trophy. He seems to think it has humor in it! Not Me!

Well, I'm sorry it happened. But I am glad it was a copperhead instead one of the other 3 options in Texas. Best wishes for rapid recovery.

Bennie, I hope it died from my toxins but I didn't get the pleasure that I know of. Actually I only caught a glimpse of it before hastily retreating.BB, I know Ben and his brother as well. I'll tell Charley you are on the forum!

A serpent in the garden has been a very bad thing for thousands of years now. Glad to hear you're doing ok.

My stepmother got to take a helicopter ride last week because of one of these. They live up in Gordonville and wound up flying to Plano. Closest place with anti-venom. She said she was walking the grandkids to the car and thought she got stung by a wasp. Back in the house she was bleeding, cleaned it up and found the fang marks. They've been chasing copperheads all summer. Don't walk around outside without shoes!

I had to kill one last week. It was trying to get in my daughters pool. I hate to think when one would do to my lil one. She is the top crappie catcher in my family.

Copperheads are all over the place in the West Cross Timbers area. Fortunately, they are small and cannot strike very high. If you are wearing boots you are OK. My neighbor forgot to turn off the lawn sprinkler and went out about 10 feet in his bare feet at night. He got nailed twice by a Copperhead.

I used to truck farm a little. I raised peaches and watermelons. It seemed that every bit of brush had a Copperhead. And every watermelon had a Copperhead or Black Widow under it. Fortunately, where there are Copperheads there are almost no rattlesnakes. The rule of thumb is if there are cedars watch out for rattlers. If there are no cedars watch out for Copperheads.

My bro in law got bit last Wednesday night peeing on a tree in the dark.... hit him twice, mostly dry bite but the little venom he did get he said felt like a red hot poker jammed into his foot and twisted around.

No antivenin, just antibiotics and he headed off to Leakey the next day.

The antivenom treatment is out of sight with the cost-but better than the alternative-particularly with a cottonmouth
