I decided a few weeks ago to try fishing from the shore on the weekends. I bought spinner baits, worms, crank baits and drove out to Inks lake. I read that Inks is underrated for bass and crappie so it sounded good. Well I've tried many different lures and got out there at 5:30AM the past two weekends and I haven't gotten any bites. I know there are fish because I saw a kid with tiny hooks using stink bait catching baby bass. I tried around 10AM (it was still under 90 degrees) on Lake Buchanan last Sunday no luck there either.
I'm just looking for suggestions of where I should go next to fish. I'm thinking about Sam Rayburn but that is a huge lake and I wouldn't know where to start. I caught one white bass at Pedernales state park after a few hours of casting. Any tips would be appreciated on fishing from the shore around Austin.

Sam Rayburn is a good place to fish from the bank. Especially if you can get some nice long casts. I would suggest just going there and riding around for a while to find a good spot. Stop in a local bait shop. They always know the good spots.

Go to the rivers. If you get on Highway 281, you'll cross some rivers, there's access, and there's lots of fish. Look at a highway map.
As far as lakes go, you can go to Volente marina on Lake Travis, they have an indoor fishing house. It's lit up for crappie. There's one at Lake LBJ. It's on the north side of the 1431 bridge. Always fish around boat ramps. The concrete has algae that draws in bait fish.
I saved the best for last. Lady Bird lake in downtown Austin is full of fish. Get on the hike and bike trail and fish. You can rent a kayak or a canoe there and really tear them up.

What's that place in Marble Falls where you can pay a few bucks and access a trail that leads down to the base of the dam there? I've been up there a few times by boat, in the spring, and seen people fishing from the bank. I've heard you can do pretty good there when they're discharging water through the dam.

The place in Marble Falls is Wirtz Dam. Usually pretty good in the spring. Pecan creek in Marble Falls also offer some good bank fishng. In Horseshoe Bay on 2147 there are two large ponds each about 5-6 acres in size. Loaded with bass. Fished these ponds when I was a kid. I saw some people fishng them the other day so I guess you can still fish them. The one across the street from the Convience store is the best. There are some golf course ponds in HSB that are just awesome for trophy bass but not sure how to tell you to get to them.
