My budy and me just recently started shark fishing big shell where looking for some others in this area to maybe make a trip with us down there. We bothed bay fished and surfed fished down in Port Aransas for many year but have just recently gotten into the thrill of shark fishing. We went about a month ago with a yack and had one good run on the 6/0 but it got off. We're going the first weekend in Nov. if anyone wants to make a trip down there or meet us down there

I am in the Austin area and my friends and I shark fish Big Shell as well. We were down there a couple of weeks ago with a Yak. Not sure when our next trip is but I will let you know and see what is up.

I have been wanting to try this, could you help with a few questions? What do you use for bait and what kind of rig? I would assume this is a big waiting game so do you use a rod holder? I have seen bull reds take rod and reels into the gulf. I am trying to get a 6/0 off ebay what kind of rod and line would you recommend? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Man, a week too soon. Plan on going weekend of 11/12. Best of luck. I don't have 4x these days so I don't go that far unless it's in a caravan and can get help getting out just in case. For Freshfish...I think a 6/0 is about the smallest I would use if you are yaking past the 3rd bar and after the real big boys...LOL!! Oz and most of the Corpus guys use the biggest rigs - the old 12/0 is common for these guys and they land 10'++++ all the time from the beach (including Makos). They wear harnesses and definitely have rod in some holder until time. I have a rack that fits on my hitch so the pole and holder don't end up in Haiti...had it happen a few times, but managed to get the rod before it was completely towed away. Tight Lines and post after the trip!!

You guys are lucky, I've never been to big shell but always dreamed of it. LOL. I have a newell that holds 400yards of 80#, not quite big enough for the true big boys, but big enough for 8-9 footers. Im thinking about getting a 12/0 senator, but dont see the point till spring
