I think I am going to try Cotton Wood. Seems to be a little more remote and less traffic... But I am only guessing at this time. Last month we did a day long trip and hit Clear lake, Cottonwood, and Black Creek. Only one we didn't catch anything at was Cottonwood. Nobody was there. I will admit we only stayed about an hour but thats all we needed to say lets move on. The other lakes produced right away.

Shaun, what was the deepest water you fished? Thanks for the help. I think it was 31 down around the Dam. Let us know how you do. I meant to be there this morning but overslept.

I fished Cottonwood today at 7:30 AM till about 11 AM... The deepest water was about 12 feet out in the middle. I caught two very small bass and wife caught two very small bass also. Marked lots of large fish, but they might have been catfish. Could not get bit on the larger fish in deeper water.
Water temp was 87... That is hot for early morning fishing.
I trolled a deep diving crank bait down the middle of the lake and no bump... FIshed small horse head on the edges and got one. Threw a senko on the edge of moss/grass on caught one... Hard day for sure.

That doesn't sound to encouraging. I haven't tried cotton wood yet. I'm thinking that is the largest lake out there? Road Runners, and 6" worms worked really good on Clear when I was out there the other day. I was fishing right at daybreak and catching them on the east bank as you leave the ramp. I bet a small topwater wood have been a killer early.
How was the water clarity at cottonwood? Did you happen to snap any pictures?

Could I ask you guys a question?
I am new to Texas so I am not sure what the small lakes and ponds do in the summer. A lot of the lakes back in Missouri turn over and become unfishable for a few weeks in the hottest part of summer. I am fishing this pond and it's showing the signs of turn over and it July 2!
What should I expect for the next 8 weeks?
Is all the clear water going to turn green?
Thanks!

edit: opps posted the pics and stuff in the wrong area . Hey another transplant from MO, what parts did you move from Fish Fear Me? I just moved from Mo about 5 months ago too and I am learning the fishing area myself. Talk with sToddh, he is from Denton, is a great guy and a outstanding friend. He will set you up on anything you need fishing wise in your local area I bet.

Went out to Clear Lake and fished out of the kayaks from sunup until about 3pm. Between my buddy and I we caught over 40 bass. Nothing of any size, the biggest being about 2 pounds. We caught 90% of them on two lures: Fluke in clear with black/silver flake and a worm in watermelon with green/red flake. They really weren't interested in anything else.
Most of the fish were caught in about 6-10 feet of water right along the grass line where it changes color from bright green to dark. You will see what I mean if you go out there. It didn't matter what side of the lake or which bank, they were everywhere!
Water level seems full (compared to previous trips) and water was clear. Don't have a temp. gauge but when I jumped in to cool off it didn't help much.
There was only two other people out there all day. So, if you don't mind quantity over quality I would try and get a trip in soon.

Water clarity was about three feet. The water had a lot of broken grass floating on the water. I water was dingy in color not clear. I think the hot water is causing the grass to die, but that is my guess. The water was about two inches from the top of the concrete spilway. The lake looked very fishy but just not a good day for me. sorry no picts.
