Anyone know of a formula or method of figuring what thrust is needed for a bass rig of a certain weight with fishermen, fuel, gear sitting on the water? How many lbs of boat weight per lb. of TM thrust?

Volts would be something to think about as well. I havent ever had a TM that didn't have enough thrust but 36v sure does last a lot longer in the wind than 24v. If you don't stay out in the wind you may not need 36v.

As big as you can afford X boat length = J/K I don't know the formula but I do know I bought a 109 lb thrust for my 20ft and can fish in the wind with no problem. I hardly use it over halfway on the power setting.

I would go big as you can always turn the power down if not needed. But sometimes you need the extra power.Just my thoughts

Seems like most 20-21' boats use 36v 100lbs + TMs. My 1985 19' Stratos came with a 49lbs from the factory. It was painful trying to use it so I put on a 74lbs motor. It does fine.
When dealing with wind and moving up a bank I always go against the wind and leave the TM on constant. I just tweak direction. Its much easier than doing on/off. If I'm just holding a position on top of some point or something you just have to gut it out. Like anything else, the more experience you get in those conditions the less you worry about them and the more natural it is to fish under them.
Wow...I went way off topic. Sorry!
18-19' get at least 70. 19+ get 100.
You'll never regret having more TM or outboard power.
