The San Angelo Standard Times website has a lot of info on what San Angelo is doing to bring water to the city. They are building a water treatment plant to remove high levels of radium from the water in the Hickory Aquifer east of San Angelo 70 or so miles, and a pipeline to bring the water from the well field to the city. Trouble is, first water from the new source not until 1014, and San Antonio among other cities, is looking at that Aquifer for water- how many cities can it support? But I'll bet San Angelo finds a way. They have fought this ongoing battle for decades, and they are still there. I was born and raised there, and fished opening day at North Concho Lake, now the dry O.C. Fisher.

So with no water running out of O.C. Fisher, what will happen to the North Concho that runs through San Angelo? I don't think the Concho out of Nasworthy can back-fill all of that.

Looks like that lake has silted in during its wetter times.

George Strait needs to sing a song about this. I can hear it now.... " I've got some lake front property on OC reservoir "

I guess it will go dry unless they pump water into it from below the dam at the Oaks St bridge. If you check Google Earth, you can see what I'm talking about.

I would like to see some current aerial photos of EV Spence Res. It is sitting at 1%. Last time I was on it back in the 90's it was full. Back then it was the premier lake of West Texas until Ivie took over. We need rain in the worst ways,,, and a lot of it.

Looks like max depth is 58 ft at conservation level. Around 1988 or so the lake was kind of full, around 60,000 acre feet (60% capacity). I suppose this is one of the repercussions for building a reservoir in the desert. O.C. Fisher water history Then should that include any lake on the boarder or in the Chihuahuan desert, right? Just expect them to dry up because they we're built in a desert. Kind of like lake Powell too I guess. No-it's not normal. It's called a drought and a drought in East Texas does not have to last nearly as long as one in West Texas to create these situations. You know, kind of like when the lake in the desert of Austin dried up.

Does anyone know the rules concerning "pecking order" as far as retaining water to refill low resorvoirs when the rains come back, and rivers again flow. For example, will Twin Buttes be refilled before water is allow to flow on down to O.H. Ivie, or must normal flow be released and only flow above that may be retained?

Depends on how the "rights" were set up before the structure of the dam. Then there are always court cases afterwards that can dictate as happened recently. I am not the expert on TButtes but this is what I understand. The city has a watermaster that dictates to them how much water they must let through the gates depending on how much water comes from Spring Creek, South or North Concho. North Concho flow is halted primarily at OC Fisher (but this wateshed has underperformed since it was structured). TButtes water also flows through Nasworthy before hitting the natural river basin of the Middle Concho becoming neither South or North but only the "Concho River". Before construction there was an agreement and dollars exchanged w/ a co-op of farmers that are entitled to X amount of water also depending on flow which is run through a concreted waterway to the east of san angelo to those farming areas. Of course when it's wet it sustains - when it's dry the farmers and the Watermaster hammer it.
