yeah, you can drive on the beach as discussed above. just be careful to drive only one way and park on the "dune side". the cops will be out this weekend and they give a ton of tickets for those two things. also, there is a burn ban in effect down there so be mindful of that.

Best tip I can offer is eat lunch at the Red Snapper Inn in Surfside and order the fish po-boy, which is made with red snapper filet and I believe only available at lunch.

I will be there with bells on, hopefully slaying speckled trout. But definitely loving life...this is one of my favorite things to do. I normally use paddle-tail artificial gulp mullet, but the last couple trips spoons have out produced for specks and spanish mackerel. Silver has been outproducing gold spoons, and I have learned to retrieve them slowly and actually stop...pause, let them drop to the bottom and resume the retrieve every once in a while. This erratic and generally slow retrieve seems to have increased my success with spoons. I like the Johnson spoons and i have learned to use a 50 pound test mono leader section with a swivel tied to 65# braid as my main line. We got spooled by a big red on 12# mono a couple trips ago, so I am out of the light monofilament business for surf fishing.

Hope to see you out there.

Brazoria County as just about all the rest of the counties in Texas, has a burn ban in effect. I would guess it is applicable on the beach just as it would be anywhere else. Let that fire bran get in that salt grass, along with the winds coming off the gulf and you will have a problem.

Surfside beach pass is $10- pay once per year. Hey Walleye, bet you'll never forget that one that spooled you, though. Did you get to see the fish? Thanks for the tip on the spoon retrieve.
