How would you hook a hermit crab? I accidentally picked up a bunch last year and put them in a baggie thinking they were just shells. I felt so bag when I saw all the dead bodies the next day. Wouldn't feel bad to use them for bait but just didn't know what they were but I know where to find them and will down there next weekend.

what we did was crack the shell open and use them like that. They work really good, caught some baby reds and a few nice trout on them.

How do you go about hooking them without killing them?
rod and reel is wanted up and down the coast for "assault with a deadly weapon" on the hardhead community

Thanks I'll give it a try if the tide isn't too high in the bay to go get them. Hope the weather will be ok. We are staying at NAS this time instead of Mustang island.

Saw someone fishing at NAS today with the hermit crabs. I didn't catch any of them to try myself until we were getting ready to leave. They were in the crab trap, lol. Hope they stay alive til in the morning so I can try them.

Sheephead are the ribye of the sea! Harder to clean until you learn to just filet around the ribs rather than cut through them.
