Hi yall. I just moved to San Angelo, TX from Wrightsville Beach, NC. I'm the youth director for a Presbyterian church here. I wanted to take my Senior High youth group (about 30 kids) somewhere on the coast for spring break where the guys and I can fish and the girls can just enjoy being at the beach. I can't take them to Padre because its the colleges' spring breaks too, and that would just be trouble.

Where in Texas would yall suggest taking some high schoolers that wouldn't have a bunch of hammered college spring breakers, but that the girls would like and has good inshore fishing?

thanks and God bless

Good fishing and plenty of swimming very close for the girls.

Great place to take spring breakers and to fish is Crystal beach, on the bolivar peninsula.

I would second Gigger08 on Matagorda. There will be a much smaller crowd and you will have easy access to wade fishing in the East Mat. bay by driving down the beach. I do not know much about driving down the beach to access the bay since I get there by boat but I have seen many vehicles that have driven right up to the bay from the beach. Check out www.lcra.org as I believe they have plans to build a facility down there but do not know the schedule. You might post again about driving the beach for access. Also not as many options on lodging but you should find something.

Matty will do well, but I might also suggest Goose Island State Park or Rockport and the city Beach there. Not the surf but you can run the bus, van, etc to Port Aransas to the gulf beach if they want to see the actual Gulf. Port Aransas will not have the college crowds as bad as SPI, there will be some, but not too bad, and the Goose Island State park/Rockport area have a lot for young'ns that age. Good wade fishing and Port Aransas has 4 diffferent party boat operations and a 12 passenger independent fishing boat for offshore fishing.
March is not the best time for inexperienced fishing for along the coast, but you should be able to catch some good drum and other species. Offshore will also be a bit unusual fishing with AJ's and state snapper and some other large variety fish around. But it will not be the summer fishing as we know it.
Good Luck on whatever you choose.

i'd say galveston/bolivar area...galveston bay has flats all over it, usually teeming with trout, reds and flounder. i saw a school of what looked like bluefish not too long ago as well. just watch your step for the stingrays and keep all the fish u catch about 30 feet away from u on a stringer...sharks like a free meal, and it prolly wont be pleasant to become part of it.
