I've been a Johnson or Evinrude guy my whole life, but with all the problems I've had with my 06 E-tec I was thinking about going over to the other side and getting me one of them black motors. I was wondering if the E-TEC has gotten better or not??

Evinrude should not even be part of the equation...

1. Optimax
2. SHO

R J E, I also have an 06' 225HO ETEC. I love my engine with that being said I have had to put 2-lower units on it. One my fault. This is the only problems I have had. What kind of problems have you had.

Given those choices only I would go with the Merc.

I know a few people who have the newer (09 - 11) models, and yes they do seem to have gotten somewhat more reliable. But compared to a Merc or Yammie, they still seem to be more problematic. Personally I don't think I would choose one.

I have an 06 etec ho 225 with a brand-new powerhead that was installed within the last month. Now it's back in the shop with low compression on one cylinder, have had nothing but problems wit it and will never have another Evinrude.
