If you pull in 100 yards away from someone and start fishing you are showing them a lot of courtesy and consideration. If you feel that 100 yards is not sufficient room then so be it. If you think the courteous and respectful thing to do is as you state it fish right through them or run over them then so be it. In fact if you are covering 100 yards in 3 minutes, then come on by. I feel sure there will be plenty of fish left behind for me to catch.
If you prefer to fish by the old school way of courtesy then by all means do so. Stating that you are going to fish right through someone or run over them is not a very good example of old school courtesy.
Just for the sake of discussion, how far ahead of another boat would you consider far enough to start fishing?

we were talking about someone going down the bank, and someone else pulling in in front of them, like I stated before, it is my decision to either start behind that boat or go somewhere else. If you are good with 100 yards then like I already said, fish on but at the point you pull in front of me and start fishing down the bank get ready to be fished through because you have just decided the set of rules we will use. I was in the back of little caney a few weeks ago and there were at least 15 boats in a five acre area as I saw it everyone was courteous and I never felt like someone was in the wrong even though at times we passed right by many different boats. Its real easy, even in a crowd, to have respect and I don't think it is really very hard to recognize nor is it hard to see the other. Pulling in front of someone and fishing the water they are headed for is rude but like I said I can handle what ever set of rules you want. And as far as covering 100 yards in 3 minutes, ever watched KVD fish?

I like to get out there early, put out at least 20 bouys to reserve an area for myself then defend it. A one ounce weight can be fired like a bullet if you can cast with accuracy. This is a courtesy question, in the good old days people had much more respect for others and wouldn't even consider coming in on another persons bouys but now days all is fair game so learn to play the game within the current rules. I have had guys pull up to the same dock I am fishing and throw at the post right next to the one I am fishing, it used to bother me till I realized all I had to do was figure out who the guru is at each lake, buy the fastest boat on the water, then follow all day. It is so much easier to just follow the local all day for one tournament than to try to find spots on my own. My success has sky rocketed. All is fair after all I am breaking no rules in doing this. All sarcasm aside, oh nevermind. So you have decided to join the "rude bunch". Wow, another one on the water. I thought we have plenty of those already. BTW, KVD fishes fast but I haven't seen him blow through 100 yards in 3 minutes. He works an area with tons of casts.

100 yards is alot depending on what you are doing. Last champs event we fished within a hundred yards of the same boat all day, sometimes 20 yards, chatted all day with them. They were doing something different on a different ledge directly behind us, no big deal. If the guy was fishing a spot then he only gets that one spot, not a bouy on 2 spots, The reality is especially on Fork if you have a particular spot you better mark it and fish it, to think your going to get an area as large as a football field on anything known is just not going to happen. It's nothing to see 3-4 boats within 30 yards of each other. If your working a ledge or a road bed back and forth there is a pretty good chance that someone is going to move in on it at some point. I would not pay any attention to a bouy if the guy is fishing another one 100 yards away. If you can't cast to it your not fishing it.

No ezbassin I haven't decided to join the rude bunch, notice the last sentance. Sarcasm. I am courteous as can be right up to the point someone else changes the rules then I play by the new set of rules. Its really that easy. Have you really fished around KVD much because I have seen him cover water that fast.

The McDonalds tournaments are filled with non courteous people.

Yes dude 100 yards is plenty. I don't get upset if someone pulls in 50 yards away. I would prefer if they pulled in further but it does not really bother me. With as many boats as there are on the water now, you are very lucky when you get 100 yards separation. I'm sorry if anyone does not feel that 100 yards is a fair distance but to me it is.

troyz the cool thing about this is that as long as it is ok with you then it must be right since there are no rules. That is why it is also ok for me to let you set the rule then apply my idea of what I think is the next right move. See how this works. 100 yards is more than enough distance but cutting in in front of someone is not cool no matter what the distance. Just a question if you don't mind, why wouldn't you start behind the guy going down the bank especially if he is fishing faster than you?

If the area I want to fish is behind the other boat then I would certainly pull in behind it. If the area I want to fish is ahead of the other boat and there is sufficient room for me to pull in ahead without crowding the other boat that is what I do. When you pull in 100 yards or so from another boat you can may not be able to tell if they are fishing faster than you or not.
Most people are not going to fish 100 yards down a bank anyway. If they have not caught anything worthwhile by then, typically they will be heading to another area. If they are catching fish, they will usually turn around and work the same area.
I believe I am being courteous by allowing 100 yards between boat, you seem to think no one should ever cut in front of you and start fishing regardless of the distance between boats. Lets just leave it at that and agree to disagree on the subject.

Ok. And for the record it really doesn't matter to me either way because it is almost as much fun for me to re cut in front of you and catch em as it is for me to catch em with you having never been there. My only point is who are you to decide that a 100 yard cut off is ok but me cutting back in on you at less than 100 yards is not ok. To me a recut should be just far enough ahead of you to not hit you're boat. Hey I have an idea why don't you just get in the boat with me and I will teach you how to catch em covering 100 yards in 3 minutes.

What really makes my day is to have some inconsiderate, disrespectful POS try to hog me by cutting right in front of me a couple of boatlengths and I follow them catching one now and then while they zero. Doesn't always happen that way of course. Sure is nice when it does though. Some even have the nerve to ask what I'm throwing.
