We are going down the week after the fourth to SPI. I have never fished in salt water or been to SPI and need any and all help that you guys can give.
Lures, places, species, tips and advice is all greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Its not called Killing and Catching for a reason.

That's a tall order.I'll go with the basics that work. Fish the tides. In the surf fish at the beginning of high tide untill it reaches high tide. Use cut bait or dead shrimp and a weight . You will catch stuff. Go to the piers and talk to people there, they'll help you. There is one at the causeway on the Port Isabel side and one on the south end of the island. Consider a bay guide because they can more often than not put you into stuff this time of the year barring unusual weather and give you lots of advice. People there want you to catch stuff and be happy. Avoid the piers on weekends and holidays. Live shrimp under popping corks will get you some good stuff however since you've never done it ask the locals for instructions. Jump in there!

If you are without a boat then besides surf fishing I would drive north past the convention center and go into the bay there. Wade out into the flats early and you will find some redfish, trout. Thow topwaters and bass assassins for most consistent bite. If weeds are not bad try a spoon to cover water.
