Are there smallies in Allen Henry?

Hey Zach, I'll trade you a smallmouth catch on Belton for a trip on Fork!

For consistency and overall size, Belton is one of the best in the state. I've had 50+ smallmouth nights out there, and the schooling can be phenomenal. I think Texoma has bigger fish, but I would bet day in and day out, Belton is better for numbers and overall quality. Whitney and Stillhouse have fallen off over the last five years or so. Both still have them, just got alot tougher to catch or the population got smaller. The fall off on Stillhouse coincided with the explosion of Hydrilla we had, which was kind of strange. I don't know what caused it on Whitney but some have said Golden Algea and others have said stocking issues.

The man in the brown suit definitely hangs out in Belton though, especially after dark.

I was definitely surprised to see that brownie rise slowly under my bait and just hover about a foot from it...eye to eye. I was so shocked to see it was a smallie, I must have hesitated 5-10 seconds before I gave a little twitch of the rod and whamo......he grabbed it and went straight down. All I did was hold the rod, he set the hook himself !

Going back soon, maybe during a full moon so I can fish at night for some more of those little brown terrorists thumb
